Doing this in the Antarctic would probably not give very good star-trails. The Milky Way would wash out a large portion of the image.

I miss the Southern Night Sky - you can barely see anything in the UK.

Antarctic star trails (2nd photo on page)
Taken through a fisheye lens, the milky way does cloud things some, but the aurora is more distracting.
