nitpick: I like Lucas’ little touches, too, but if you’re referring to the skeleton of the “sandworm”, it was in the original 1977 release. Time magazine even commented on it then, saying that it was an obvious homage to Herbert’s Dune books.
Sorry if I came in here late, but I think this bears repeating. Lucas, pay attention! Your fans pay more attention to the story than the effects!

Why didn’t they ‘fix’ the computer animation in ANH of the Death Star. It still showed the main weapon in the wrong location.
Of course I hated the Han second shooter. In future additions Greedo will be shot from the grassy knoll.
Mostly the new stuff didn’t bother me. I did miss the Ewok song and the new one just sounded like those guys from Peru that play all the time in Times Square.
I did like the punched up sound and I liked the little pack of lizzard/rats that Luke almost runs over heading into town.
