Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Seen It (Assume Spoilers Within)

Huh, I didn’t think she looked that bad really. For her age not really bad at all. Ford looked a lot worse than Hamill or Fisher; of course that’s kind of to be expected since he’s a lot older than both of them (73 vs. 64 for Hamill and 59 for Fisher). Ford is also in the credits for Ep. VIII, so he’s coming back as perhaps a memory or a force ghost or something.

So a cast that features *one *black guy is “shoving diversity down our throat”? There were still tons of white people in that movie, give me a break.

Harrison Ford just barely pulled of han solo one last time. Do you think al Pacino could do scar face again? Of course not. I just meant that Carrie fisher has no clue how to be princess leia. I will shit myself if mark Hamil plays a decent Luke Skywalker in the next movie.

I guess she does, and she’s not princess Leia, royalty, she’s now General Organa, overseeing a military movement (like she did in the previous movies). Personally, I loved it. All the original characters aged, and it showed, that was the idea. It would have been inconsistent for Luke and Han to have aged accordingly and then have a muuuuuch younger Leia. What, she’s using the Force to fight wrinkles? That would not be her.

I also believe that by the end of the trilogy, all original cast will be dead, to give rise to the new generation.

Many of the complaints I’ve read about the movie, and some which could be valid points, are also problems/issues in the original. I watched ANH a couple of days before TFA, so I could see clearly where TFA took from ANH and ESB (which I watched a few days before too). But some of the issues are the same, or worse, in ANH.

  1. Luke is supposed to go to university/school. That means he’s either smart or has some kind of skills, but this is not mentioned much after (the going to school thing). He is shown knowing that he has to evade desert raiders, but not fight them. Rey has been living at least 10-15 years in poorer conditions that Luke, having to fight and defend herself. I give points to Rey in combat skills at the beginning of the movie, vs Luke.

  2. Love plot… Finn’s is actually better than Luke’s. C’mon, Luke did half of what he did in the beginning because he found Leia (or her hologram) a very pretty girl. Not because of the force or because it was right. In contrast, Finn wanted to abandon First Order and helped Poe escape, and while he became smitten with Rey, he saw her in action, and saw her in person. He didn’t start his adventure because he saw a hologram of a damsel in distress. And in repeated occasions, Rey states she is not one.

  3. I don’t recall this movie being any different in terms of diversity compared to the previous movies (including prequels).

Because it’s only natural for fiction to depict only white men in important roles. Anything else is throat-shoving.

Has it been considered that Rey could be Kylo Ren’s daughter, instead? Yea, he looks a little young to have a grown daughter, but it would explain why he and Snoke seemed to recognize who she was. And why she was on Jakku.

Have they stated that it’s been a firm 30 years since RotJ?

About that final scene on Skellig Michael…how much did they pay Mark hamill to stand there for five minutes, doing nothing? And, (just thought of this)-why didn’t they put the black storm trooper into the same tank , when Luke Skywalker froze to death on the ice planet Hoth?

+10 for the obscure but welcome Smiths reference

He powers up before he sees the map which BB-8 was carrying.

What if Darth Emo, er, Kylo Ren worshipped his grandmother instead of his grandfather?: In an alternative universe where Kylo Ren admired his grandmother instead of his grandfather - Imgur

They show the map twice - once while R2 is in the corner in sleep mode, and again after he wakes up, and projects the map with the hole in it that matches BB’s map.

Hmmm…

I was thinking the same thing, but to be fair, he also had to play gamely along and pretend like he was a major part of the film, or at least perhaps not simply a bit appearance, in order to not spoiler the film. I don’t know how many appearances he’s made relating to the film, but just because he had less than 1/10th the screen time of the other major characters doesn’t mean it was less than 1/10th the work.

Also, I would presume his payment is contingent on his willingness to perform in the future movies, where he’s likely to have a much more significant role - in effect, it’s part payment for his overall participation, 99% of which (I assume) we haven’t yet seen.

Well, she knew that they were going to retrieve someone, and she was the only human that exited the Falcon, as Finn was still out. Strange that she didn’t hug Chewie, but it made sense, especially since they are both strong with the force.

BB-8 wakes him up. When they arrive, BB-8 goes up to him and pulls the tarp off of him and nudges him a bit. Artoo just takes some time to reboot. Threepio comes over and explains that Artoo has been in low power mode since Luke left and that Artoo doesn’t have the map.

This article explains it all.

Aww, that spoils all the speculation! I read another article that it was the hug between Leia and Rey that triggered some sort of localized Force ripple that then triggered R2’s awakening (perhaps something Luke programmed into R2 before he left), not BB’s earlier “knock”.

Man…Leia Organa looks like she’s morphed into Jabbah the Hut…no more gold bikini. And planet Joker looks worse than Tatooine…that bar was nasty.

Seriously? Han Solo shows up with a face looking like the South Dakota Badlands, and it’s Fisher’s appearance you have to bitch about?

Well, of course. Don’t you know that the only purpose women serve is to please men? Once an actress can no longer serve as eye candy in a bikini she ought to be taken out and shot.

I’d say she looked pretty good for a woman who has been responsible for leading armies in fighting wars more or less continuously since she was a teenager.

I just saw it this weekend and loved it, it was glorious.

Now on to my prediction/observations.[ul]
Finn is force-sensitive[/ul] I have a few reasons for this.

  1. Kylo Ren senses him on the battlefield, and pauses for a moment as he’s walking into his ship. Later, Ren instantly recalls his FN-number designation, so he remembers it very clearly.
  2. He picks up the operation of the Falcon’s blasters just like Luke did in ANH.
  3. He seems to sense the explosion of the planets/moons that the Starkiller explodified.

From this thread, it looks like he made upwards of a million bucks. Not bad for a couple minutes’ work. And also way more than what the new young cast members made.

Of course (shocker), Harrison Ford got much more money than the entire rest of the cast combined.
