Starcraft II Official Thread

If you haven’t played many PC games lately, you might have some outdated video drivers. Have you tried updating them?

My collector’s edition came with some guest passes, anyone interested?

I got 2 10 day passes for world of warcarft and two 7 hour passes for Star Craft II (you get to play for 7 hours for free).

Yes, and I double checked.

Got my collector’s edition today, and I am thrilled.

That said - I played quite a bit in the beta and 1v1 multi doesn’t show up as available. Is this simply BNet being overloaded?

I don’t mind too much right now, I’m having fun with the single player campaign. I had made a half-promise to myself to replay SC1 and BW before release; I didn’t even make it through SC1. It’s just too clunky. I got to the Protoss mission where you have like three heroes (um…Tassadar, Fenix, maybe Zeratul?) but the fucking toss opponent just keeps sending reavers at you. I’m glad they’re gone in SC2 ;D.

I’m gonna give my boss a “guest pass” tomorrow, though I am fully aware this is like a drug-dealer handing out “free samples”.

It’s not free at all! Bwaaaaaahahahahaahahahahahahahaaaa!

Edit: BTW, I take offense to Starcraft II Official Thread ;D

Sorry game hat I figured the full release warranted it’s own thread

Unfortunately I got stuck with some last minute chores so I only got as far as the third mission, but man, am I having fun!

glove slapI That’s it. 1v1. I’ll go random. I demand satisfaction!

:stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s a pretty good summary of what happened in Starcraft and Brood Wars.

I’m fairly annoyed. I pre-ordered from Amazon and it dispatched Monday. On Tuesday we received a ‘missed parcel’ notification. Usually games are pushed through the mail slot so now I don’t know if the package is my game or not.

The missed package notification just to be extra annoying says we can pick it up at the depo after 48 hours?!?! So now I don’t know if it is still on the way or stuck at some depo until tomorrow.

Ugh, that sucks. I will say I pre-ordered from Amazon (got me into the beta, after all) and was a bit nervous about their “release day delivery”.

They did ok by me though. I had mine by lunchtime on release day. Sorry it went badly for you.

OK, I’m in, and I am staying up way too late paying this awesome game!

I am only interested in the SP campaign; is it worth buying for that? The local distributors are selling it at quite expensive here (two times the usual price for retail PC games), so I am not going just to get it to satisfy m curiosity.

How are you going to have a LAN party if SC2 doesn’t support LAN?

I do have an internet connection. We might not be directly connected through my actual local network in battle.net, but we’ll still be able to play in the same room.

Got it yesterday, played a few hours. First impressions: the gameplay is great. Feels just like original, but the new units and new mechanics add some more depth to the game. The better UI is great. The new battle.net is pretty sweet as well. Integrated voicechat is absolutely essential to team play and works pretty well. All in all, I’m enjoying it so far.

All that said, there is one thing I am extremely disappointed with: the manual. It sucks. It’s about eight pages long and only covers the history of the franchise. One thing I loved - absolutely loved - about the original game was the manual. All the narrative color in it, the background of the units, how they were made and how they fought, the different factions within each race, all of that I loved to read. Yeah, that old manual probably cost a few bucks to produce and print, but damn it was sweet. I expected a better product from Blizzard in this case; IMHO, this is just getting too greedy. Cut on costs by printing a shit manual with nothing in it. They know something like 10 bajillion copies will sell. Why not give us a robust and proper manual like the old one?

Mine’s on order, but I might not get to play it until my current computer troubles are dealt with.

What I did was to cheat my way through a review of the Story So Far. Mostly I used the infinite money cheat. Through the last few missions I just went all-out invincible. Even at that it took me a while to get through the whole story in multi-hour chunks over the past month-and-a-half.

9.8

I concur.

Well whatever the package is that came yesterday it wasn’t the game. It came today woohoo!

I’m through the Mar Sara missions and of course I’m already achievement whoring. The last mission on Hard while trying to get all of them was a pain. I really need to let go and beat it once on normal and then go back…but I know I won’t.

I’m already annoyed withing logging into Battle.net to play SP. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have to type my password in each time. Is there a way around this?

You can play single player without logging in by choosing “guest”. But yeah I hate typing in my password every time. I saw an option somewhere to leave me logged in, but I have to hunt it down again.

Another sales update: 1.8 million sold on day 1, not including Korea, since they purchase PC games differently there, but estimates are around another 2-4 million in that country alone.

Pretty impressive for a PC only release, no?

The current title holder for day one sales is MW2 with 4.3 million on day 1. But that was a multi-platform release (xbox, PS3, PC).

If you play as a guest, can you log off and resume the campaign where you left off?
