Stargardt's syndrome. Is there any hope on the horizon?

I read somewhere that Stargardt’s syndrome is caused by an accumulation of proteins in the macula, surrounding the optic nerve. This causes a characteristic donut shaped blind spot in the center of the field of vision. I read that the blindness is progressive, leading to full blindness and that sun exposure increases the rate of the progression. Did I understand what I read correctly?

Also, some testing is being done on lab animals to see if the proteins can be dissolved. Can one or more of the SD medicos please tell me what you know about Stargardt’s? Thank you in advance.

Bump?

Hoping this is a netter time of day to get a response.
