Okay, rather than do the research myself, I’m taking the lazy route and depending of the staggering wellspring of knowledge on the SDMB. I just watched this last night (this being Starring Pancho Villa As Himself on HBO), and I found it really enjoyable. I have no idea, however, how accurate it is. I assume it’s fairly accurate as far as portraying the era, but what about the story? Did Pancho Villa really do this, o is this just a very original fiction? I found it awfully suspect that the film in question mysteriously disapeared, which is the biggest clue that this is fiction.
Help?
Well, there’s this for starters. I don’t see the name Frank Thayers in there, though. (And the bio gives Pacho’s real name as Doroteo):
I haven’t seen the movie, but the real Pancho Villa had a favorite hobby that would seem politically incorrect today: rape. He boasted of the women he had raped (once while the girl’s father was tied to a chair and forced to watch). Not exactly the cloth from which heroes are cut, so I’m curious if they’ll include that.
According the the TV Guide article, the bit about having a film crew follow them around is true.
“Qualifications?”
“Rape, murder, arson, mayhem and rape.”
“You said ‘rape’ twice!”
“I like rape!”
So * thats* who that is standing on line! Funny, he didn’t look mexican!
How is Rap like Porn? Both are better with the sound turned off.
