Start Lyft Work. Any advice?

I got tired of getting messed with, and I was accepted by the ride-share service Lyft.
I intend to do this daylight hours only, part time.
Any advice?

Talk to your personal auto insurance carrier - they often require an additional rideshare coverage above and beyond your normal liability package. And if you don’t carry it already, make sure to add some UM/UIM and Medpay coverage if your state allows. You don’t want to be in a situation where Lyft refuses coverage and your carrier does as well.

Most of the major carriers should offer the option, but I cannot speak to the price. You may also want to bump up your personal coverage on that policy as well, because the minimums provided by Lyft and other services aren’t super high, and if something goes wrong, they can and will go after your coverage next, so better safe than sorry.

You might think about self-defense options against crazy passengers:

A big problem with being a Lyft/Uber driver is that you can end up making less than minimum wage because you don’t account for the total costs of the use of your car (you just consider gas…).

There have been previous threads on this here so do some searches for Lyft and Uber.

Document all expenses and all earnings meticulously. You need to know if you are actually making any money and you will also need this documentation for your income taxes. If you are receiving food stamps this sort of self employment has really strange rules involved, or at least it did when I was a food stamp worker.

I’ve never done this but my understanding is that it’s difficult to make it pay, especially not if you’re realistically valuing the wear and tear on your car. Is there not a more conventional job you can find?

I’m tired of bosses.

Apparently a number of drivers drive for both Lyft and Uber (if there is dead time on one platform you might be able to find a driving opportunity on the other).

There are a couple Reddit sub-reddits you might look at:

Aaaannnd Andoid Auot STILL won’t work with Lyft.
And my phone holder just fell apart.
So far, only one fare. :face_holding_back_tears:

I’ve spent DAYS trying to get them to talk to each other.
Neither my local computer techs nor the car dealership knows how.

My niece in the 'boro drives for UberEats. She works whenever she feels like, and says she makes about $20/hr. She’s in nursing school and when she has time between school and studies, she drives. Sometimes she picks up drives in Franklin or East Nashville. I’d feel much safer with food in my car than strangers.

What issues does she have?
Please ask her if the App is reliable.
I would appreciate this, if it is convenient for you.
After all, there is a big difference between what the company says, & what you niece says.

Bosda - She says there are pros and cons for each, but she prefers UberEats to DoorDash. With DoorDash you need to schedule a time to work, and with UberEats you just sign in when you want to work. She doesn’t have any problems with the app, but she has an iPhone, and she’s younger than we are. Sometimes she makes mare per hour, sometimes less, and driving in other areas can be more profitable. The app tells you up front what your take will be before you accept the run. The customer has the opportunity to tip, and that’s usually added before you accept the run, but they can add to the tips later. It’s amazing to me that people will pay to have someone get 5 sundaes at Baskin Robbins delivered.

Thank you.

WOW!
Had a heart attack patient use my ride instead of an ambulance on Tuesday.
She hid her condition from me before we pulled out, and didn’t tell me about it until we were way down the road.
Tricked me into thinking we were visiting her friend in the hospital.
NO MORE OF THAT! :scream:
Switching to Instacart.
Groceries just sit there.

Further details?.. Did she make it there OK? Did they bring her into the hospital immediately (I have been reading about long delays)? Ever hear how it turned out?

I took her inside, alive.
I dropped her off with the security guy there.
I left.
I will not be going back.

I’m so damn shook by this.
I’m actually scared !
When she got in, she just looked like any woman of her age.
When we got to the hospital, she was grey!

Does a person have the option of Uber Eats alone?

Do you mean UberEats and not Uber passenger? Yes, my niece just does food delivery, and occasionally an Instacart. People seem more willing to tip on UberEats than InstaCart.

My thanks.
