Started my Masters program today

I’m doing an online program, Masters in Ed, Adult Education and Training. It’s through University of Phoenix, and yes, I’ve already gotten the lecture from my dad about how useless a degree from Phoenix is. Do I wish I had time to go in-residence to a “good” school? Of course! But I’m a single mom, work 50 hours a week, have a daughter in a magnet school (which requires a certain number of volunteer hours per month from each parent)…so I’m taking the P-Train.

On the plus side, between tuition assistance and my GIBill, I’m paying nothing out of pocket! Yay!

Congratulations!

In the past I have had a cynical view of Phoenix but the other day I saw a commercial on TV with some guy in the auto industry and set out to verify it was just BS with made up names. As it turns out he was who they said he was and had some impressive credentials. It then occurred to me that it was another case of things being what you make of them.

When I was twenty the stars always aligned just right and I was sure they always would.

As we push fifty we have to take the pieces available to us and make the stars align.

I see stars in your future!

Good. I feel like these schools often take advantage of people by getting them into a lot of debt that the degree won’t help them pay it off, but it sounds like you’re not in that situation. Hope it goes well for you!

My newish boss has a masters from Phoenix. She would not have been offered the position without a masters. Nobody cared which school her degree came from.

She encouraged me to go back; I started Phoenix in October. It is outrageously expensive, but like you, virtually all of my tuition is covered by my employer.

Good luck!
