State some controversial beliefs that you have.

I believe a woman shouldn’t be allowed to have an abortion without written consent from the father who helped make her pregnant. Because after it’s born and the parents split and when it comes time to pay for that child, she sure wants the court system to know it’s his.

I feel that all drugs should be legal.

I feel that our government needs to be dismantled and rebuilt from scratch.

I feel that pedophiles and other people who commit violent sex crimes should never be released from prison.

I believe you should have a minimum IQ of 125 before getting your drivers license. And if you never get anymore intelligent, you never get your license.

Before this thread goes too far, what are the ground rules? Are you expecting people to respond to, comment on, or debate the “controversial beliefs” you’ve said, or are we only supposed to share our own?

I believe that hierarchy is wrong and ideally should be dismantled; that ultimately no one should have authority over another person’s actions.

…and that’s what the rest of this thread is going to be about.

I believe all foreigners living abroad should be taxed by the US government.

I can get behind that. Foreign people that live in other countries should not be able to avoid taxes just by staying away from the U.S. That is called evasion and it is illegal and immoral.

I believe taxes are way too high, socialism is evil, and all gun control laws should be repealed.

I think pregnant chicks are hot

runs

I think they should tax holiday snaps.

Ditto that.

I think many Americans don’t realize just how good we have it, and of those who do, many don’t realize it’s not wrong to continue to improve our lot.

I believe churches that own property and bring in revenue should be taxed like any other corporation.

I believe the market economy has most of the failings attributed to it by marxism and its offshoots (although far from having a solution to offer, they establish a centralize dictatorship form of government that is charged with redistribution; and in practice, socialism is just market economy with band-aids and excessive governmental authority).

I believe that feminists (including the ones “everybody hates”, Catherine MacKinnon and Andrea Dworkin) had some very valid points about sexual objectification; and that one can be totally pro-sexual freedom and anti-prudery & inhibition and still hold that position.

Oh, and aesthetically 99.9% of all pornographic material I’ve seen is about as erotic as a basket of old unwashed gym socks (a controversial belief can be an artistic preference or taste, right?)

I think we as a society need to do whatever it takes to give individual women volitional control over their bodies’ reproductive functions; if that means unimpeded abortion rights up until the moment of birth, readily available in every county at governmental expense, so be it. (It doesn’t necessarily mean that, nor would that be sufficient for that matter, so consider that no more than an example of the importance of the underlying precept)

I believe reading to newborns/ infants is stupid.

I believe a couple conspiracy theories too, but I don’t want to say what because I don’t want to turn this thread all “political”.

I believe that fundamental Christianity actively seeks to thwart science, destroy art, eradicate responsibility for ones own actions and is the single biggest growing threat to our way of life in America today.

Um…all five of the OP’s assertions were political. I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Fire away, foilhatter!

BTW, I’d like it if the OP would return and tell us whether we’re meant to simply compile a list of beliefs here, or start attacking each others’ beliefs. (S)he wasn’t clear on that point.

No ground rules. State your own or debate others. Should make for an interesting thread.

I believe that the world would be a much better place if about 25% of the population were taken out back and shot.

As long as I get to make the list. Otherwise, never mind.
I believe French wine is, by and large, over-priced and over-hyped plonk.

I believe most liberals are suffering from an excess of guilt.

I believe that aliens are stealing my socks.

Legal and available OTC regardless of medical application?

For example, as strange as I would find it to go get a doctor’s prescription for ecstasy, it would be weirder for me to be able to buy ecstasy without a prescription, yet need a prescription for penicillin. And I would really have a hard time if antibiotics were available OTC, because other people’s overuse/misuse of them has definite potential to affect me, as I catch germs that are already resistant to medicines I haven’t even taken.

Your assertion is way too general for me to agree with as is.

Controversial stuff, huh?

Okay, I believe that citizens of a democracy are 100% responsible for the actions of elected officials. I also believe that soldiers in volunteer armies are responsible for the wars they wage.
