State some controversial beliefs that you have.

As a mirror image to Dob I believe that less than 1% of people in western society who claim they believe in God really do actually think such a being exists. The rest just like the traditions and social aspects of religion and carefully push ‘God’ into a corner of their mind.

Sorry about that. I was reading page 6. For some reason whilst posting I was thinking that it was the last page. As it is I didn’t really want to reply to something from 4 pages ago.

I believe more women should have breast enhancement surgery.

I believe most Americans who believe in ‘socialism’ are lazy and selfish, and just want the government to hand them free money for being alive rather than going out and working for it.

I believe that liberals are just as morally authoritarian and authoritarianly moral as conservatives.

I believe that the injection of ‘morality’ into our politics - the now overwhelming idea that government should not just be a system of laws but rather a vehicle for the bettering of society - is the greatest failure of our country, and is the reason why we’re ripping apart at the seams. And until society starts to decide that the solution to societal problems should be society and not the government, things are only going to get worse.

That said, I also believe most Libertarians are way too whacko to effectively communicate this message.

I also believe most communication on this board is a philosophical equivalent to masterbation.

“I also believe most communication on this board is a philosophical equivalent to masterbation”

I wondered why my keys were sticky…

Why?

He’s a plastic surgeon? He’s a lawyer?

I believe that any intelligent person should be able to recognize that Christianity and the Bible are loads of hypocritical shit. I think that anyone who believes in Christianity must either be brain-washed, ignorant, lacking in common sense, or desperately needing the comfort of believing in an afterlife. I think there’s a reason that as society is becoming more educated Christianity is becoming less widespread.

I think Christianity has had a net negative effect of the world and does much more harm to America today than Islam.

I think much of what is perceived as the “intolerance” of Islam only emerged as a response to the chaos caused by Western powers fucking around in the Middle East.

I think this decade has already seen the end of American hegemony, as evidenced by the fact that we can’t handle Iraq by ourselves. Within the next decade the European Union and China will emerge as global powers equal to the US and we will live in a much happier world.

Because Europe did such a good job the last time they were global powers.

Actually, many of the people I know who believe in National health insurance or other expansions of the federal safety net are in fact pretty hard working successful people. Most of them don’t see themselves as recipients of the services they favor. I’ve never met anyone, anyone at all, who said “I’m so wonderful the government should just hand me free money just for being alive.” Have you?

Because I find women with larger breasts more attractive.

I recognize that this is exceedingly self-centered and selfish of me. But that’s why it’s a controversial thing I believe.

Well, I’ve met plenty of people who said “I’d be a much more wonderful, artistic, and self-fulfilled person if I could find a way to make money without working all day.” Is that equivalent enough?

I believe that masturbation is spelled with a u. I’ve noticed that this is an increasingly unpopular belief, but there it is.

No.

That strikes me as more daydreaming than as advocacy of socialism. I mean who wouldn’t want free money? I wouldn’t turn my nose up at it. But I don’t seriously think the government would or should give it to me.

As long as I’m here I will say I do agree with some aspects of the Welfare reform program Clinton and Gingrich hammered out last decade. There were people who would game the system. But what they got was a pittance which they needed to supplement with off the book employment, assistance from relatives, and crime.

In any event that doesn’t have much to do with national health insurance. We can debate whether or not national health care is a good idea or not, but advocacy for same isn’t like you demanding free money just for being you.

You’re right; none of that has much to do with NHI. In fact, I’m not even sure why when I said “advocating socialism” you jumped to “desire National Health Insurance”. I think you’re jumping to incorrect conclusions about who I’m talking about.

Because Europe is the same now as it was in the 18th and 19th centuries.

National health insurance seems pretty socialist to me. It’s probably the most socialist like position I’ve seen advocated on this board and elsewhere. I’m not sure what you mean by socialism. If it’s “The government should give me free money so I can smoke dope and follow my favorite band around,” than I heartily stand with you in opposing that idea. It’s just that I don’t know anyone, even dope smoking band followers, who is seriously advocating that.

And anyways, I don’t mean the world will be happier just because the other global powers will be more reasonable, but because a consensus will be needed before doing something like going to Iraq, international organizations won’t be so easily ignored, etc.

In that case, I agree wholeheartedly.

  1. I believe that gay marriage should be legal and recognized as legitimate the world over.

  2. Although I dislike many things about Catholicism, I think it has become the “in” thing to hate Catholicism, and most people are way, way too militant about hating it.

  3. I think that allowing little girls (14 and under) to wear belly shirts and other skimpy clothing, (as well as makeup on a daily basis), is a form of child abuse.

  4. In general, women aren’t as funny as men. Part of the reason for this is that women oten seem to think the only way to be “funny” is to tell jokes about how stupid men are, and/or menstruation.

  5. I think people who start smoking after the age of 16 or 17 are idiots. Unless you’re older and that was back in the days when smoking was thought to be good for you. Otherwise, you’re an idiot. (Unfortunately, this means my fiance is an idiot.)

  6. Skinny-leg pants are ugly, ugly, ugly.
