I believe the wealthy have profited far more from our society than the poor, and thus should have to pay a much larger percentage of their income in taxes.
I believe that everybody whose income falls below a certain point should have access to free healthcare, childcare, and education.
I believe that if a school needs to cut their budget, sports should be the first to go.
I believe welfare should have time limits imposed on it, and failure to actively seek employment or education should result in revocation of welfare benefits.
I’d never wish to outlaw abortion, but I hate the idea of it, and I lose a lot of respect for those who have them (except in certain circumstances such as rape, incest, birth control failure not due to user error, impending death of the mother, or severe birth defects). I believe it’s a necessary evil, though, because we live in a world where a lot of people are fucking stupid, and stupid people aborting their babies is better than stupid people having babies.
I believe stem cell research should be pursued aggressively.
Sex belongs only in a relationship of love or at least closeness and mutual affection. That relationship can be between a man and a woman, two men, two women, two women and a man, or any permutation (excepting animals and children), but dammit, you should love or at least at least know very well the people you get it on with.
Sex education DOES belong in schools, and it needs to be thorough and accurate and include extensive birth control information. Teenagers are going to have sex, and no amount of abstinence education is going to prevent that. Birth control should be free and easily obtainable.
I believe that if two people produce a child, both have equal responsibility in providing for that child. Fathers should absolutely be responsible for child support. You don’t want a child? Use a condom or don’t have sex. The condom broke and she doesn’t want an abortion? Too bad. You should have talked that stuff out before having sex. Accept the consequences of your actions.
