Oklahoma State Superintendent Walters has demanded all students to join him in prayer as he attacks political enemies. “Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters emailed leaders in Oklahoma school districts on Thursday telling them they would be required to play their students and parents a video showing Walters blaming the “radical left” and “woke teachers unions” for “attacking” religious liberty, then inviting students to join him as he prays for President-elect Donald Trump.”
Welcome to Trumpworld-It will get worse before it gets better…and it probably won’t get better.
One thing nearly all conservative Abrahamic-religious people have in common is the inability to understand that forcing people to do something doesn’t actually win their hearts and in fact backfires.
Advertising/propaganda works, unfortunately.
I’d say that applies to all zealots.
I hope at least one kid sticks his arm in the air German-style through the whole thing.
That seems rather generic. Got anything to say about this particular situation?
I think it’s horrible. I hate indoctrination. Especially of a captive audience.
The one indoctrination that I know of that occurs regularly in North Carolina is the Pledge of Allegiance, required by law to be recited daily in every public classroom across the state. There’s no other indoctrination that comes anywhere close, at least in our state.
I don’t even like that.
I did the pledge every day from K-12 and thought nothing of it because everyone did it and it was normal.
It wasn’t until many years later it occurred to me how fucking weird it is.
Not only weird, but something that cannot legally be required.
I’m not sure we need that to happen. Seems kinda backwards or something. If done as a protest.
May be thought of as an affirmation.
It wasn’t; there were always kids who opted out and they weren’t forced to. None of us were. But we were expected to so we did.
He’s been pushing this stuff for months if not years just to set up a constitutional/supreme court challenge, of which we know the likely outcome.
There’s gonna come a day sometime soon when some prestigious university or another announces that it will no longer be accepting students from Oklahoma, because a high school diploma from there is no longer proof of having received a well-rounded comprehensive education.
It’s gonna suck for the kids, but I’m still gonna laugh my ass off at that backwards state’s self-own.
Oh, but the football players.
Certain universities will take them, right quick
It’s sad only about 20 a year will get to out of state Universities.
Hmmm, that’s true.
So, what are the odds this guy becomes Trump’s Secretary of Education?
Zero. Isn’t he planning on disbanding the Department of Education?
He won’t get 60 votes in the Senate for that, so he’s gonna have to appoint somebody.
