State with highest per-capita income.

I have been wondering what state in the union has the highest per-capita income. I was thinking it would either be Connecticut, Wyoming, or Hawaii. I looked on the IRS and census websites, but couldn’t find it.
Thanks!
Ben

Google, “states per capita income”.

Connecticut.

Wyoming?

Curious as to why you would think this.

I just figured it was a smaller state whose economy with its rich mineral resources might have a higher income. Also Jackson Hole is one of the weathiest places I have been in. (Other than the famed area code of 90210)

I can see that. Unfortunately, the mineral resources that Wyoming has are not in great demand these days, although it is getting better. I think that many of the people of Jackson aren’t actually residents of Wyoming, they just come there in winter. [anecdote]I have some friends who live in Jackson as caretakers for an extremely wealthy family. They care for (and live in) a 5 million dollar home for about 11 months of the year, and during the other month when the owners are there, they camp out in a national forest. She is a dental hygienist and he is a freelance photographer. Pretty sweet deal.

I remember hearing a couple months ago that 'Jersey had pulled into the number 1 spot.

A google search found the following:

Before or after taxes?

I know handy was being funny, but when I see these income things I really wonder about cost of living (e.g. a guy making $100K in Manhatten is “poor” compared to the guy making $90K in, say Pittsburgh).

I’d love to see per capita income stats normalized against Cost of Living rankings … Anyone ever seen anything like that? I’ve seen CoL calculators but no CoL “rankings” taking income into account

I’d rather it be done by by metro area or county i.e. normalizing NYC and Buffalo and slapping them together as “NY” is sort of silly but if that is the best we can do OK …

I beleive that Connecticut has the highest per capita income. I know becauase I live there and have to pay taxes as if I was rich.

This does not mean, however, that Coonecicut is the richest area…

Take a Connecticut-sized circle around the center of Silicon Valley. There’s your richest area.

yeard ago Wyoming had the highest number of millionaires per capita. That may still be true. Number of millionaires per capita is not the same as per capita income.
