Steam Summer Sale begins today you guys!!

Wow, incredibly slimy.

Feel dirty having bought GTA V too, specially since it wa sos easy to put down for Witcher 3.

Did they ever re-release the songs they deleted from GTA San Andreas? They deleted these songs even from people who had already bought the game. Is this latest news and surprise?

They also added GTA San Andreas.

GTA 5 by itself isn’t actually in the sale - you can still buy it, but it’s at the same price it was before. The sale deal is “Buy GTA 5, get some Game Currency and GTA San Andreas for free”.

Wasteland 2 as a daily for $20 makes me feel  about Kickstarting Bard’s Tale 4.

Portal 2 is on sale today for about $5.

Definitely worth it if anyone hasn’t played yet.

Anyone else play their “game?” It’s like they took Cookie Clicker, and managed to miss most everything that makes those kinds of idle games interesting.

I just bought my first game of the year - Crypt of the Necrodancer. It’s a combination of DDR and a roguelike: a turn-based game where you have to take your turns in time with the beat of the music. Since I’ve got a DDR mat, it should be an interesting experience.

It is an evil thing to inflict Cookie Clicker on their customers without their consent.

We have a thread for the summer sales already, but too late now unless someone wants to merge them.

GTA 5 didn’t do anything shady and I don’t understand why everyone gets insanely entitled and ragey during steam sales. Here’s how the GTA 5 thing went:

“Hey, there’s a steam sale coming, people are going to want us to put GTA 5 on it”
“We just released two months ago and we’re selling a ton of them, we really don’t need to put it on there”
“Well, we should do something, we’re putting the rest of the game on sale”
“Well, uh, alright, throw in one of those online cash cards and keep the price at $60, that way at least people waiting for the summer sale feel like they got something out of it”

That’s all there is to it. People are acting, as always, like someone raped their family because they’re not getting the exact shit they feel they’re entitled to. If Rockstar just left GTA 5 at $60, people would be disappointed, but they wouldn’t be outraged. But because they actually added a freebie bonus, so you get more, that means people are fucking livid. It makes no sense at all.

There are posts all over the steam forums like this:

So then buy the game for $60, for fucks sake, just like you could last week. No one took anything away from you. People are actually raging at the idea that there’s an extra freebie bonus thrown in. They’re angry at the fact that they can’t buy the game without the freebie. It’s like if you got some great salad bowl at a store that you really wanted to get, and they threw in free salad tongs, and you refused to take the tongs and threw a fit because you don’t need salad tongs.

Oh, and they could’ve kept the listing for GTA 5 and also had GTA 5 + game bundles or GTA 5 + cash card, to somehow satisfy the idiots who get offended that there’s a free bonus, but then when other people just bought GTA 5 normally, and then saw that there was a bundle they could’ve had for the same price, then those people would be (understandably) upset about that.

There’s no winning. Everyone gets a hysterical, illogical sense of entitlement during steam sales.

No, it’s like if they posted an advertisement specifically saying the salad bowl was 25% off, and then when you went to buy it they refused to sell you the salad bowl for 25% off, but instead offered you some free salad tongs you didn’t want to sweeten the deal. And also, those salad tongs invalidate your ability to get a refund if the bowl is damaged and needs to be returned.

Not really, the splash advert says “GRAND THEFT AUTO”, and lists a range of -25% to -75% off. Clicking that makes it clear that it’s the bundles that are on sale, and further down the rest of the series is on sale for actually quite cheap.

I’m with SenorBeef on this one. Rockstar’s only crime is to not give a discount on their brand new AAA game that is still selling well.

Also, if you don’t want the salad tongs because you feel you might want a refund, you can get GTA 5 without it.

Or buy it for 25% off from GMG. Between GTA V and Witcher 3, there’s a hefty premium to stay with the “Steam or nothing!” crowd. The real sales on those games are for the non-Steam versions.

Part of the problem with GTA V was that they fumbled the start of the sale; the image said GTA V but clicking it sent you to some in-game money cards, they pulled the base game because it was supposedly coming up cheap at first on accident, etc. For people trying to get GTA V right out of the gate, it was a mess and probably helped the perception that they were jerking customers around.

I find the GTA V “sale” disappointing but oh well. I’m sure as hell not paying $60 for the game just because it includes some extra “money” to help you not play the game.

It’s not a new AAA game, FFS. It was released in September of 2013. It’s damn near two years old. I realize they spruced it up a bit for the PC release but it’s not a new game. If it’s still selling briskly enough that they don’t want to drop the price, fine, whatever. But don’t try to make it look like it’s discounted when it isn’t.

I’ve waited 2 years, I can wait another 2.

Correct me if in wrong, but Steam doesn’t sell PS4 nor XBox games, and GTAV was only recently released for the PC. So for PC only players, like me, this is a new release. I don’t care if it has been on consoles for 2 or 10 years.

ETA: I’m with nobody on those abysmal salad tong references. What a tortured analogy. Ramsay Bolton would be proud.

I agree, and I have no idea why people seem to think they’re entitled for GTA 5 at a steep discount. They went through and improved everything, it was a big project to make PC the best version, and it’s available to you for the first time. If it’s a great, modern game, and you’re getting the best version, a better version than what you could get 2 years ago, then why would you feel like you’re somehow getting ripped off just because an inferior version existed 2 years ago?

The thing is - people are raging that you can’t buy the game, for the same price, without the extra bonuses. Look at the quote in my previous post. I could find you 50 like that. These people aren’t actually angry because GTA isn’t on a discount - they’re angry because they get a free extra bonus with the game and they don’t care about. They can still get the same game for the same price they could last week, but they act like someone has violated them horribly and they’re going to boycott the company forever.

If GTA5 was $60 and just wasn’t part of the sale, people would say “aw damn, but I get it” but GTA5 is $60 with a bonus, and people are fucking furious and ready to boycott the game.

People always get wildly irrational with insane entitlement during steam sales. As an example, for two winter sales in a row, steam had a raffle where you’d earn tickets by completing various objectives - some were achievements in games, some were just minor steam tasks like joining a community group. If you got at least 10 tickets during the sale, you would be entered into a contest to get the top 10-50 games on your wishlist for free.

There were people being utterly nuts about it in the most irrational ways. “They better let us win 10 tickets on freebie entries! If I have to actually play a game or buy a game to get this customer loyalty bonus I am going to be so fucking enraged! I am entitled to free shit and the very idea that a giveaway exists without being exactly what I want it while I contribute nothing infuriates me” to “VALVE IS RAPING MY MOTHER, FORCING ME TO SPEND $2500 TO COMPLETE EVERY POSSIBLE OBJECTIVE WHICH I MUST ABSOLUTELY DO NOW BECAUSE I HAVE NO CHOICE!” and other things that I’m barely exaggerating. EA and other companies fuck people over, and no one cares. Valve tries to be a good guy and give people cool shit for cheap and people get enraged - insanely enraged - that it’s not exactly the freebies they want in the way they want it.

I suspect that’s why we don’t see these freebie giveaways and shit anymore. They generated nothing but completely insane bitching. So Valve finally said “fine, I guess you’ll be happier if you get nothing”, and apparently people are.

I don’t know why this is so hard for you to understand. There is (or was) a big 25% OFF banner over GTA5, and it’s not actually 25% off. That’s what people are pissed off about. If they hadn’t said 25% OFF!! and instead said FREE!! card thingy with purchase of GTA5 then there wouldn’t have been a furor.

Also, on my Steam client at least it absolutely showed the bundle pricing breakdown with GTA5 at a regular price of $90, discounted 25% to $69. That’s deceptive marketing and actually illegal in some jurisdictions.

I agree with you, regarding the loud, annoying, entitled minority. But your analogy about salad bowls and salad tongs was shit to begin with, and then people kept torturing it more by playing around with it.

I have far from an eidetic memory, and I don’t recall the actual GTAV banner, but I didn’t feel any bait and switch when I clicked through (not that I would have bought it at 25% off either…I don’t even start getting interested until something hits 50%+ off).

If Steam sales are good for anything across the internet, it’s giving people lots of practice typing “entitled”.

Well, I scored The Witcher 2 for $2.99. It’s an odd kind of a semi-rpg, with quite a few cut scenes (so far) and peculiar little spots where you can’t save. It’s beautifully done, though and was raved about 4 years ago. I’m liking it. And 3 bucks!

Of today’s games, Cities: Skylines is excellent. I always recommend Chivalry to people, and at $2.50 you should buy it. Probably the most viscerally satisfying combat game I’ve ever played, and we still play it regularly.

I went ahead and grabbed Road Redemption - it’s a road rash remake, procedurally generated tracks with motorcycle combat. The plan seems to be to release it in a couple of months and raise the price to $30ish, so if you want to grab it, now is a good time.

I also grabbed Prison Architect and a 4 pack of Mount Your Friends.

Considering 7 days to die. I kind of want one of those sandbox survival games to be good, but there are now like 25 early access ones and I have no idea what to make of them. I heard 7 days to die is pretty polished compared to most.
