Stephen King short story?

In a discussion with a friend he described one of his favorite short stories by Stephen King. It involved a man (a doctor?) stranded on a deserted island who has to perform surgery on a fellow survior the shocking ending was
he was performing surgery on himself
It didn’t sound at all familiar to me, does anyone remember it? What short story collection it came from? Title?
Thanks.

The name of the story was Survivor Type and it was in Skeleton Crew.

That story spawned the phrase “I’m so hungry I could eat my own foot!” in my house for years.

Thanks, I just lost 20 bucks though. Don’t bet over pints is a really good rule.

To be clear about it, the shocking bit isn’t that the person has to perform surgery on someone, it’s that he runs out of food, and breaks his ankle, such that he can’t even chase food or move around very well. So, he amputates his own foot and eats it. And as he gets hungrier, things kinda go downhill. As I recall, the last coherent sentence is, “lady fingers they taste just like lady fingers”.

*Survivor Type * was a story King remarked upon being unable to sell until he became famous enough to sell his laundry list. His first test of that fame was the fact that allofasudden, someone was willing to buy and publish the thing.

It appeared in a little paperback anthology called Horrors or Terrors or *Tremors * or some such thing before winding up in Skeleton Crew.
