My husband just called me and told me. Confirm?
It’s on the front page of the NY Times web site.
RIP Steve.

“Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”
There’s an app for that RIP Steve. You will be missed.
Somehow I knew this was coming today.
Wow.
I always thought he was an arrogant bastard, but he gave the world the Macintosh, which certainly changed my (and millions of others) life. RIP.
What a ride. Talk about leaving a legacy.
That was a real shocker. Such a reminder of mortality when you think of someone having more money than you can ever spend but suffering from something for which there’s no cure?
Wow - I had no idea he was actually that sick.
RIP Steve.
From my beloved MacBook to the Great Beyond,
RIP, Steve!
I am so sorry.
My aunt worked for him in the early days and loved that Apple was willing to hire senior workers.
I kind of figured that when he retired again it was because he knew that this was coming. Still sad though. Too young.
I’m surprised by how surprised I was to hear this. Somehow I thought he’d never die?
At any rate, may he rest in peace.
One of the giants of our time, rip steve
Declan
RIP, Steve. The whole world is a better place for having you in it, which is not something a lot of us will get to say.
I feared that he was. My spouse used to work in the iPod team (he actually got an iPod handed to him by SJ when his group got free ones for bonuses several years ago), and he used to tell me stories (all secondhand, of course, but close-ish secondhand) about how much of a workaholic he was, and how deeply involved with the products he was. I was very afraid that if he stepped down, that meant that we wouldn’t have him with us much longer.
It sucks that I was right.
