Steve Rogers list for 21st Century music?

Help me make a Steve Rogers list for 21st Century music.

I like listening to music on long drives. My all day drives to and from the eclipse reminded me that I haven’t gotten any new music since Apple stopped the iTunes “song of the week” in 2015. Nine years! Musically, I might as well have been frozen in an iceberg since then. I hardly had any new music before that. I’d like to try some music of this century, where I’m going to spend the rest of my life.

Can my fellow SDMBers recommend new songs or artists for me to try, preferably since 1999? One or two examples for each, to let me decide whether the performers/genre is to my taste. Thanks from a Boomer who wants to catch up!

I can’t help much with the request, but I thought I’d explain this for other posters:

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Steve Rogers (Captain America) goes into a state of suspended animation in the waning days of WWII, and is not discovered and revived until ~2011.

In the 2014 film Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we see that Rogers has a notebook, with a list of cultural touchstones from the intervening decades that he wants to catch up on.

Janelle Monae – I love so much of her stuff, but if I have to pick two of her songs, I’ll say “Sincerely, Jane” and “Make Me Feel”. If you’ll give me a third one, then “Many Moons”.

Electric Six – “Danger, High Voltage” and “Gay Bar”.

MS MR – “Bones”.

Jack Whyte – “Seven Nation Army” and “Love Interruption”.

I know they’re not necessarily popular board-wide, but the latest mmm Favorite songs by alphabet polls are limited to 21st century songs, and while I’m in in the same boat, if not worse, than you, I’ve been discovering new artists in those threads.

Give the Wilco song “I Am Trying to Break Your Heart” a try. One of my favorite albums, it might or might not suit your tastes.
