Sticking to the surface?

The other day I was reminiscing with a friend recalling childhood tricks and such when we came upon a mutual “ability” that neither of us could explain. I’d like to know if others can do this as well and how it works.

When I was younger and light enough that adult males could lift me with relatively little effort (~100 pounds) I could prevent myself from being lifted. If I concentrated, I could make it so I could feel me feet/sneakers almost feel like they were stuck like Velcro to whatever surface I was standing on. The person attempting to pick me up couldn’t do it although they could lift me at other times. Now if only my dad had said this or a few friends I could believe that it was a prank but I could do this at will. Presumably, I still could but I’m not finding too many takers on trying to lift me now that I’m 225 lbs.

My friend said he could do the same thing. It’s not going limp and being a dead weight either. I would flex my leg muscles resulting in me “sticking” to the floor. I tried it on a scale and my weight never changed (hey, I was twelve).

So how did this work? I can come up with two options:

  1. Few people in humanity can bend reality and alter things as they see fit (OK so I stole that concept)

Or

  1. By flexing my leg muscles I ended up flexing my entire body which resulted in the lifter unable to get a good grasp (I’ve always been lean) on me so they could not grab tight enough to lift me.

What do you all think?

  1. The adults were playing along to mess with your head.

I’ve thought of that Q.E.D. but it doesn’t seem to account for times when it happened away from my parents circle of friends.

Despite what you say, I think it is a case of going limp and being a “dead weight”. I remember pulling the same trick in this way.
