Still belting 'em out

For the past week or so I’ve been hearing the newest version of “Burning Down The House” by The Cardigans and Tom Jones a couple times a day. It’s actually pretty good, but back to the question…

Who will still be around 20 to 30 years down the road belting out new tunes with the up and comers ?

To my dismay the first person that jumped to mind was Madonna.

George Michael

::shudder::

I thought George Michael’s “latest release” is what got him arrested in the first place.

But 30 years from now, in all liklihood,
the Rolling Stones.

and God forbid…

Michael Jackson, Boy George or Celine Dion
::shudder::

Happy New Year Everyone.

U2.

Michael Jackson (in about 30 years, all that will be left of him will be some plastic, a mask, some hair, and a voice box. Oh yeah. And a glove).

Hanson (Oh Lord! My eyes!).

Rush (Please, let it be so…Please, let it be so…)

You say “cheesy” like that’s a BAD thing.

Gotta love Tom Jones. Can’t think of anyone who could beat that voice. or that body.

so you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts. what’s so amazing about really deep thoughts? Tori Amos

A few years back, around the time her first album Tidal was out, a magazine was profiling Fiona Apple and some other teenage singers. They gave little quips about each one to tell you how to distinguish between them. Hers was “the one who’ll still be around in forty years.”

By then “the artist formerly known as Prince” will have taken his name back and be introduced as “the artist formally known as Prince”.

I’m hoping the Ukelele makes a comeback and Marilyn Manson trying to make some extra bucks decides that a Tiny Tim impersonator could clean up.

No, no. If he takes his name back, he’ll be Prince, the artist formerly known as The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, formerly known as “Prince.”

I have to agree with the 'farmer. Madonna will be around as long as she wants to be. She is the Queen of Redefinition. She has consistently been right on top of the trends. Anyone who is part of the popular music industry would do well to do a very thorough study of her career.

Let’s see. Who else…

Janet Jackson (Michael will be unable to perform in 20 years.)
Metallica
Gwen Stefani
Johnny Lang

OOOhhh, yukkk, I bet Ol’ Celine Dion will hang on til the bitter end:::shudder:::
Sting, too; can’t wait to hear his heartfelt(10 years from now) version of rap songs…
