A friend of mine met a guy who said he could get her a job at a bakery, all that was needed was a “phone interview”. So she called him and gave him her resume over the phone, her phone number, address, and Social Security Number!
So now he has that information. She assumes the job offer was just a ploy to get her SSN. She called the police and filed a report, and the police have been to talk to the guy.
Other than waiting to see what fraud might be perpetrated in the future, what should she do right now? She has only one store credit card, not sure if she has a bank account, is getting unemployment and food stamps right now.
She should call the credit report company, correct? Should she call Social Security? he hasn’t done anything fraudulent. Yet. This just happened a couple of days ago.
