Stomach pains

So I was all worried about taking the FE exam today. Apparently god heard me worrying and gave me appendicitis so I wouldn’t have to take it.

I had it out Thursday, and have been recovering since. My original roommate was discharged the same day, but apparently mine ruptured so it’s taking longer. I feel like I could get out of here today, but tptb said tomorrow or Monday is moree likely. At least I can take a short walk to the dope if I’m stuck here.

No fun! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Aw nutz! Now you have to wait until October, eh?

I had my appendix out last Halloween. I was surprised at how relatively easy the whole thing went. The weirdest thing was being able to feel the ‘stump’ tingling in my abdomen after all the painkillers wore off.

Aw, that sucks that you can’t get it over with; I’m sure you would’ve passed. (and, of course, the whole appendix/hospital thing sucks as well)

The PE was much easier than I expected. I only couldn’t answer two questions because I didn’t have the right reference material with me (the AASHTO ROadside Design Manual, my whole office doesn’t have a copy). Unless I’m delusional, I’m pretty sure I passed. (as opposed to when I took the FE and really had no idea if I passed and then it turned out I actually scored an 82. Go figure.)

Yup, October it is. At least they’re keeping my money for that exam and not recharging me.

Mine hasn’t really gone well at all. I was at the hospital for probably 2 hours in the fetal position before I got any morphine. My appendix ruptured, so I have to have a drain sticking out of my side for a week. Also, this hurts like a bitch. I can’t stand up straight or move in all sorts of ways. Apparently I can’t workout for about a month. Overall, ugh.

tremorviolet: Yay! How long before you know?

Snarky Kong: Also, apparently, during surgery, enough air is introduced into one’s abdomen to choke a mule. I was beginning to think I had Terminal Flatulence[sup]TM[/sup].

Glad to hear that you won’t be charged for the test again in October.

They say 12 weeks but it seems like in the past, people have heard in a couple of months. They send the test to review engineers to examine and make sure the questions are reasonable so I guess that’s what takes so long.

I thought it was all multiple guess nowadays? I think it took us 4 months to find out, I don’t remember though.

Ooh, I hate this about hospitals. ERs will make you wait in agony for hours before giving you anything at all for pain. It’s almost like they don’t give a shit, although I’m sure that’s not the actual explanation for why it takes so long for them to help you. My wife was in the hospital with an intestinal blockage several months ago and I thought I was going to have to fucking murder someone to get her some pain relief.

Yeah, it’s all multiple choice now: 40 questions in the morning in the multiple disciplines and 40 in the afternoon in your specialty. So 12 weeks seems really, really long to me too.
