It always looks smaller without the apes on horseback around it.
For that, you need to go to Flushing Meadow Park in Queens, where the Fountain of the Planet of the Apes is located not far from the Unisphere. (Really!)
But their legacy remains, hewn into the livin’ rock…

heel = cad. A play on being heels for chipping away at the heel stone.
