Stoopid DVD Player

Running Windows XP. My DVD player has suddenly refused to recognize DVDs. It will run programs and install them from CDs and play audio CDs, but when you put a DVD in, it will just hang there looking stupid and will most times even refuse to eject the DVD. It worked fine a few days ago; the only thing I’ve done in the interim is to install QuickTime. But I’ve now uninstalled that and it still does not work.

What should I be looking for?

Besides the DVD drive, you also need DVD playing software. I would have to guess that installing Quicktime messed up your DVD playing software.

Try reinstalling your DVD software and see if that helps.

Yep … done that already. The drive won’t even recognize a disc as a DVD to start the software. But I have reinstalled it just in case.

Quicktime is the devils tool. Right up there with real player. It sinks it’s slimy tendrils into every video program you have.

Let this be a lesson for you.

Well I see two things here. “XP” and “worked fine a few days ago” and I’m thinking “System Restore.”

The people who decided how Quicktime would install and what lies it would tell you about itself were not nice people.
