Stop with the <twee posting behavior that annoys me personally>. A Template.

Well, according to various online definitions it means “Humourless, miserable, lacking in a sense of fun”.

I always thought it was short for “Poker-Faced”… meaning keeping a straight face and not betraying your inner emotions. I suppose there is a connection.

I wasn’t aware that this is particularly a British expression, is it?

Y’know, this and only this is what kept me from starting a Pit thread about such posts. Usually it comes across as the OP’s saying, “Lookit me! I’m so sophisticated, I deride your pathetic humor!” and I think, sheesh, give it a rest already.

But I didn’t want to lookit them, so I didn’t start a thread about it. FWIW, I think yours is a pretty great solution to that conundrum.

Daniel

Exactly. I can’t tell you how often I’ve wanted to rant about the “Hi Opal!” thing. It was only marginally funny in the thread where it started and it has long since passed annoying, especially since most of the people doing it these days don’t know why they are and don’t do it “properly” anyway. Besides, I believe it is actually possible to have a list with just two items, so there.

I’m probably being a self-absorbed jerk for even posting about it in this thread.

Po-faced.

My twee behavior smells like cat food.

So is that the exact equivalent of “poker faced” or is there a subtle difference?

When no witty comeback, bring twee.

I think you misunderstand. I wasn’t talking about Pitting "Hi-Opal"ish posts; I was talking about pitting “I hate ‘Hi-Opalish’ posts!”

In other words, I was saying that the temptation was to pit you, not the hiopalers ;).

Daniel

You’ve done exactly what you deride, but in the slight (though common) variant of imitating it, ostensibly to show how stupid it is.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t care, since I find both the twee behaviors and the pit threads they inspire fairly entertaining. But this one is circular in a way that amuses me and could cause my head to explode.

I approve.

Nope, I understood you perfectly. I was trying to say that as much as I hate the “Hi Opal!” stuff I’ve never started a pit rant about it, kind of like a “me too” answer to your post. Hence the last sentence.

Unfortunately, as per usual my post was about as clear as mud.

Well poker faced can be used as a good trait, as in the engineer remained poker faced throughout the sales meating. But po faced is never used as a compliment. Also I tend to think of poker faced as an intelligent face showing no emotion, Po faced could be the blank expression of the very stupid, as well as a more normal poker face.

Okay, I see. Sorry!
Daniel

Thank you - that’s exactly what I was trying to achieve, glad you got it.

So what we have here is the very first meta-meta-Pitting, then?

In which case, allow me to be the first to say that your post pisses me off, albeit not so much as my own post does, and certainly not as much as the posts of anyone who complains about my post will.

i.e., pre-emptive meta-meta-meta-meta-meta-Pitting.

Daniel

Bippy, you know I adore you, and I’m not making fun of you, but this phrase brought an EXTREMELY bizzare mental image to me. I don’t think that I, a civil engineer, could possibly remain poker-faced during such an event.

Oh please, someone clear up the Brit. vs. Amer. meaning of cute. I might have been misunderstanding things I’ve read for years, now.

I just know that the past tense of twee has to be tweed.

And that people behave thusly a lot are tweezers.

I don’t hate the “hiopallers” (have we officially coined that as a term?) or even the people who hate the hiopallers.

No, I hate the people who hate the people who hate the people who hate the … oh, damn, I lost my place.

Well, call me confused.

Maybe what this rant needs is some direction; a specific irritating target.

Take me.

I’m a Southern girl, and we’re all genetically programmed to be as polite as possible, at least to your face.
That means I feel obligated to pepper my posts with juvenile exclamation points and countless insipid happy emoticons lest I be misunderstood as being too blunt.

Am I twee enough for ya?

Do I need a spanking? !!!
  :stuck_out_tongue: ;j  :wally  :o
