Straight Dope Mentioned in the book I am currently reading

i was reading a new book I picked up, Spook by Mary Roach, and in one of the footnotes she mentions a conversation with Cecil Adams about Le Petomane and his rectal talents. I just thought it was interesting.

Mentions a conversation? Iiiiinteresting.

The Master deigns to speak to an outsider, but we have to pull teeth to get him to post here?

Somehow, that post made me think of Manos: The Hands of Fate. Anyway, I guess that’s the price we pay for asking for his wisdom.

Thats why He doesn’t come here often. Who wants their teeth pulled?

He didn’t say whose teeth we were pulling.

The Perfect Master wrote about Le Petomane in his first book of columns, The Straight Dope.

I went back and found the footnote… she says she learned from “The Straight Dope” columnist Cecil Adams… but the book The Straight Dope isnt listed in the bibliography(?)

I read it late last night. I guess in my tiredness I assumed learned meant conversation :o

assume makes an ass out of me

Yes, that would’ve been a neat trick.

While he doesn’t mention The Straight Dope or Mr. Adams, William Gibson brings information that I believe he got from here. The book is All Tomorrow’s Parties and is one of my favorite Gibson books.
