Straight Dope needed: House Judiciary Committee hearings on gay marriage?

aka “Will Scandanavia doom gay marriage?”

Apparently, the House Judiciary Committee is hearing arguments on, among other things, gay marriage - I had no idea about it until I read the posts in this link, where the writer is planning to present the arguments in this article and addressed on this board in this thread.

Does anyone know anything about the Commitee’s work at this time? I assume they aren’t addressing the specific issue of gay marriage yet - will they? What about the composition of the committee? Will they generally be sympathetic to the arguments expressed in the article or not? What effect, if any, can the Committee have on this issue?

I’m curious, and I suppose much of what I’m asking is factual, but those last two questions, especially the second-to-last, seem to nudge into GD territory, thus my post here.

Thanks!

Dr. Kurtz is apparently testifying on April 22 on two bills relating to terrorism, not to same sex marriage.

And just a brief glance at the article you cited, when the House Judiciary Committee gets around to considering SSM, I don’t think that’ll make one whit of difference. Most people have a reflexive instinct for or against gay marriage, and it is not like the House of Representatives is known as a forum of well-considered debate.
