StraightDope Jeopardy.

Who is FatherJohn?

“Who is fatherjohn?”

and I’ve heard “What is Shakespeare” type answers accepted on the real show.

Okay, you’re right, I can see this as a rule. So far I haven’t been counting this though. Early on a few people answered things like What is for a person and so forth; some questions at least which were mistated. I just let it go as long as the main answer was correct. shrug

Does TV Jeopardy count it wrong if one uses the wrong form?

Correct.

I haven’t watched it recently when the question has been wrong. Early versions of the game didn’t accept anything less than a basically perfect answer (sometimes not accepting proper names unless they were capitalized), and especially if the question were wrong.

My guess is that Alex wouldn’t take off unless the question were egregiously wrong (“Where is Julia Roberts?”), but SDSAB is a thing, not a person, there’s only one of it, etc.

At any rate, let’s have Mixed Members for 1K, please:)

Early COMPUTER versions of the game, I meant to type, but mentally glossed over that tidbit (Alex: “Contestant, could you spell that answer for no good reason?”).

Oy.

I see your point. If I ever run another Jeopardy on here (and I will, trust me. This went over better then I thought it would. ;j) I will put that rule into effect then. I would now, but it seems I’ve already let too many get away with it.
MM for 1000

Great job, Hal!

Answer:

Drain Bead is to Satan as Boo Boo’s Tigeress/Little Tassie is to who?

I’ve not been coming 'round to the boards as much as I have in the past; reality intrudes sometimes. But I’m here now, just found this wonderful thread, and I hope to answer a few.

Who is Bratman?

Who is Honesty?
