StraightDope Jeopardy.

I don’t recall a top-row DJ either. Maybe it’s random for the rest of the rows. It would be sort of anti-climactic if someone got it on the first try; it’s better if people can build up some cash first. And the contestants get a feel for the category if they can see at least one question first.

I think you’re right. I remember, on rare occasions, when the clue led to something which was already “in the form of a question,” that it didn’t need to be re-formed with a “what is–” prefix.

I’m hard-pressed to give a good example, but suppose that the expected response from a contestant is the song title, “What’s love got to do with it?”, then if that were given as the complete response, it is indeed “in the form of a question,” which the Jeopardy! rules require and it would be OK.

That is, it would not be necessary to say, “What is ‘What’s love got to do with it?’”

Well yes, of course (not everyone can name the two baseball players who hit only one home run before age 20 and only one after age 40). I don’t watch Jeopardy! enough to be able to say for a fact that they always have their DDs near the top or bottom, though I’d be willing to agree with something to the effect of they will occur more usually in the 4th or 5th slot down than the other 3 slots up.

It was, and I’d swear it was Eve who actually came up with the line (Wildest Bill OP, IMHO thread), but in using the search function today I discovered it won’t let you go further back than a year or 500 posts, so unless someone knows of a way to access it, it’s probably in among the archived threads.

Either way, we need someone to edit these answers;)

Here ya go: I Am Going To Blow People Mind’s At My Funeral

I am ready for FJ.

My e-mail is being uncooperative, therefore I will not be participating in Final Jeopardy. Which is fine, because the odds of me being able to win are slim to none to begin with. On the real show a person with a small amount of money sometimes wins, when the first and second place people bet lots and get the question wrong. But here, there are a lot more than three people who can compete.

I’m in…my wager e-mail is sent.

I just sent an email. I’m tickled to still be in fourth place after missing the entire second round due to Hurricane. Now I’ll go back and read through that part of the thread to see how I might have done.

  • Shibb, who unfortunately, just like the Post Office, is stopped by hurricanes.

Idle Thoughts, if you go back and check all of my responses when asked to “Pick another catagory” I quoted you back but corrected the misspelling. I thought you might catch it eventually. Also, since I’m just now reviewing the thread from the last couple of days and need the help, did you stop subtracting points for wrong guesses?

I got to the correction later. And damned, Patrick, but aren’t you the pedantic one. I think that Alex Treblant would have you forcibly removed from real Jeopardy!

Sorry about the break folks. My net was shut down for the weekend.

Anyway, I’m back and have gotten wages from:

Iampunha
Shibb
Fireman
Nightwatch
Peri
Hal
Zakalwe
Lighting
Kat
and wolfstu…
So those are the people participating.

And now, the FJ question…please do not answer it here, email me at the same address with your answer.

Category, Initial Reaction

Answer:
E.C.V.
I will allow sufficient enough time for everyone who wagered to see this and email.

Okay…Straightdope Jeopardy is now over.
Of the people in FJ…everyone PMed me a wager…but only SIX emailed me with guesses to the FJ question:

Iampunha
Shibb
Fireman
Nightwatch
Peri
Kat
So the others are declared null. Sorry.

Now, the question to the answer Initial Reaction: E. C. V.
Who is El Cid Viscoso.
AND now…based upon your answers and wagers…here are the order you ranked in.
In sixth place…

Kat with 0 points.
5th…

Fireman with 200 points.

4th is…

Nightwatch with 700 points

3rd goes to…

Peri with 1200 points.

And the 2nd place winner is…

Shibb with 5800

Which makes Iampunha our winner with 7200 points.

Thanks to all who played. If anyone has any questions at all, feel free to ask. I’ll be hosting another SD Jeopardy in about 2 or 3 weeks.

Way to go, Punha, you wanker!! (If you need a trivia question for the next round, this guy’s my kids’ favorite Doper… the trivia question would be the “why” part). I’d like to say that if I’d been around for the second round I’d a whooped you, but you weren’t around for much of the first round AND I read the second round questions and wouldn’t have done that well anyway.

Special thanks to Idle Thoughts for keeping me from whatever it was I should have been doing instead, possibly saving us from running to the center of a hurricane instead of staying here and letting the hurricane miss us!

Darn darn darn. You made up that name, didn’t you? You’re in cahoots with iampunha! Darn it all.

Thanks for the funs.
