Stranded on a desert island again. (game)

MMMMM Dessert. Oh wait, I said desert island.

A couple friends and I sometimes play a game about the things thta we would take if we were stranded on a tropical island.

Assume these would be things that you would have to be able to fit into a normal backpack (the typical small ones that students carry). You can put anything you want into the bag but you can’t carry anything else with you. Only things that go in the bag.

What would you want?

I ruled out a guitar for myself because it wouldn’t fit in the bag. :frowning: Bummer.

So I had to be inventive.

  1. A good sharp knife, the one like Rambo Brite’s knife. (Ie, has a screw off compass with a little compartment that can hold fishing line, hooks, and a sharpening stone that can double as a flint to make a fire)
  2. An axe
  3. A hacksaw
  4. A luthier book on how to make guitars (woo hoo I will get me a guitar)
  5. A book on island life with a big portion on what is edible/inedible in it as well as medicinal purposes)
  6. As much rope as can fit in.
  7. A teapot monkey who can act as my butler. (well maybe not)

Not too sure what else I would take at the moment. I think a compilation book of classical/flamenco music would be good but I think at this point I would start too have too many things in the bag.

1: a toothbrush and toothpaste (yeah, I know these would get used up, and eventually I’d have to make do with twigs and charcoal, but at least my teeth would be shiny and fresh for a little while).

2: Waterproof matches in a sealed plastic container (because “waterproof” don’t always mean what it pretends to).

3: a machete

4: a wool blanket

5: half a gallon of drinking water

6: A plastic tarp (so I can distill me some more agua when the water I brought runs out).

7: A notebook and a pencil

8: A stainless steel bowl (so when I make Island Lizard Soup I have something to eat it out of)

9: Drivers license and credit card, so when they find me, I can be IDed (if I’m dead), or can buy a plane ticket home (if alive).

10: A Swiss Army knife.

11: Flares, in case a plane flies by.

Granted, my backpack’s pretty full, but I don’t plan on doing a lot of hiking.

  1. Satellite phone
  2. GPS unit
  3. Water filter,
  4. Dried rations to last me a couple weeks
  5. Thermal blanket.
  6. Lighter
  7. Knife
  8. Bowl, fork, spoon.
  9. Pen and paper (don’t want to get bored while I’m waiting for a rescue. )

That should last me long enoguh to be rescued.

Thousands of toothpicks. To make a bridge.

One book.

  1. one basic organic glassware set (to distill water and, perhaps ethanol, fruit permitting…)
  2. my zippo, plus fluid.
  3. matches in a ziplock… back up, man. You need back up.
  4. my favorite quilt (it’s twin sized!) and down pillow.
  5. a blue tarp. Why are they always blue?
  6. beef jerkey, dry miso soup, and rice crackers
  7. one last pack of cigarettes…can you tell that I just quit? stranded on a desert island deserves a cigarette!

congrats on quitting, ** zwitterion ** !!!

Sorry about the little hijack. Carry on, all.

  7. Rod and reel with a variety of lures, line, hooks etc.
