strange (but common) state laws

  1. anyone who (through no fault of their own) posts a topic without an OP shall get no less than 5 years in jail.

(sorry, couldn’t resist)

I tried my best to post a new post. I typed in my long story and hit the post button and waited a few minutes for something to happen…nothing. So I gave up and closed the browser…but here’s what I wanted to post…(luckly I copied it for a future paste)

I’m from Maryland (regardless of what my profile says) and on a recent trip to the Meadowlands in NJ, I noticed a strange difference in the roadways. Now it may be common place to some people but it sure seemed odd to me…you can’t make left hand turns off major roads. We were cruising down Rt 70 looking for a place to eat and saw an IHOP on the left. So we went to the next traffic light to make a U turn but the sign said “no turns” so we went to the next light…“no turns”. We finally realized you had to go to the right to get back on going the other way. It’s very confusing for an outta towner. I suppose that’s where the term “jersey walls” came from also…now I knew about the full service gas all the time but I certainly have never heard of “no lefts”.

Any simular stories?

This would be better suited to MPSIMS than GQ, so I’ll move this over there.

Jersey Barriers have nothing to do with it; you’ve encountered the ‘Jersey Jughandle’.

Called a jughandle because that’s what it looks like… to make a left you need to keep right. Theoretically it keeps the traffic moving, but enough people wanting to turn left means the right lane gets all cloggy.

Man, Jersey is a pain…
