Strange computer mouse behavior

Lately, my mouse seems to be interpreting a single click as two clicks or holding down the mouse button as a double click. For example, sometimes when I hit the back button in Internet Explorer it will take me back two pages, like from a thread on the SDMB right back to the main list of boards. It does not do this all the time, just randomly. I ran Spybot, AdAware and a virus scan and nothing came up. I am running Windows XP. Any idea what the problem could be?

Your mouse is broken.

Seems a bit of an obvious pat answer, but I think that’s probably it.

Do you have a wireless mouse?

I have a Logitech wireless mouse and it tends to do the same thing when the batteries are low. Sometimes, for an added trick, the pointer will bounce around the screen and act as though the left button is continuously pressed–activating everything it touches (kind of a pain when I’m on the web and suddenly I have new windows popping up everywhere). It goes away as soon as I replace the batteries.
