Strange concert combinations.

mack, I was at that show.

Jerry Garcia opened for Frank Zappa (wooHOO!)
Johnny Winter opened for Joe Cocker (double wooHOO!)

The Holiday Bizarre in 2000

** Angry Salad**, a ME band that had hits, at least locally with “the milkshake song” and a “99 red balloons” cover. Cutsy alternative, but not bad.

Guster You should know who they are. Really, make an effort to find out if you don’t. Lots o’ drums and “unplugged” songs, though not so much by the 3rd cd.

** Shootyz Groove** Rap-Rock act from NYC. They’re good on cd or radio, but terrible live.

Jimmie’s Chicken Shack pop-punk. Very good live, especially “Do Right”

It was a strange concert indeed.

Nirvana, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and ABBA tribute band Bjorn Again on the same bill!

The ABBA clones played a pretty straight cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” at one point. Very cool.

I saw Black EYed Peas open up for Guster, which was strange both because of the different musical genres, but also because I thought Balck Eyed Peas were better known at the time.
Speaking of interesting combinations, there is an eclectic collection of bands like Cake, Guster, Wilco to Sarah McLachlan, Hootie and Barenaked ladies all doing kids songs on this cd called For the Kids. There is a trippy Dan WIlson song on it too. It reminds me of that copilation of Saturday cartoon songs done by punk bands.
