When I walked out of the house to head to the gym just before 5AM, I saw these weird and wonderful trails in the sky:
Anyone else see them?
I haven’t heard any conclusive report about what it was, but people have reported hearing explosions, so possibly a meteor.
Not sure what it was, but the news sites have some security camera and dash cam footage. Whatever it was, it was bright!

I saw this picture while surfing the net earlier today. The contrails are not dissipated enough for all that looping to just be caused by wind.
Maybe a couple fighter jets training for a dog fight?
I don’t know that an exploding meteor’s fragments would cause so many loops.
Looking around a little more, there are security cams and other vids coming in. And it does indeed seem to be a meteor/bolide, and a bright one.

So any explanation for why the smoke trail was all loopy?
You are looking up through many miles of smoke trail.
It only appears to be on one plane.
The shifting winds move the trail different directions at various altitudes.
My wife heard the sonic boom it made. I slept right through it.
