Strange thing with B of A bill pay

I use Bank of America for all of my bill payments. I just now noticed something odd:

I have a payment scheduled for tomorrow (I scheduled it last Saturday). When I looked at my account yesterday, the payment did not show up under scheduled payments, nor did it show up as in progress or anything under my account history.

I looked this morning, and same thing.

I am positive that I scheduled the payment!

I also noticed that my rent payment, which is set to automatically go out by the 25th of every month, also does not show up anywhere.

Again, I’m positive it has been scheduled, given that it’s been a recurring payment for the past 6 months without issue.

Another reason I know it’s going out is because 2 months ago I had the same thing happen with my credit card payment, except that I thought maybe I forgot to schedule it and so rescheduled it. You guessed it, 2 payments went out to my credit card within a day of each other (thankfully I had the funds available).

This seems to be a new thing, in that I’ve never seen it over the past 7 years or so of using online bill pay.

Anyone else notice this? Is this some strange way for BofA to collect fees from people making double payments and then having insufficient funds?

I think I may look into a different bank.

I’m with BoA, and noticed this about a month ago. Just on one payment, that is on a regular schedule. It appeared to be “just gone”, for a day or 2, then showed up as paid, and the money out of my account. Hasn’t bothered me enough to really look harder at the other payments on a daily basis, but rarely do I schedule a payment; everything is a set amount at the same time every month.
I see how it could be a problem for manual payments.

I haven’t noticed that happening to me but I think you should definitely phone their customer service and ask them about it.

I noticed with B of A that my recurring transfers between accounts weren’t showing up in the transfers tab the past few weeks, even though they were occurring. I checked this week and they were back, so it might be website issues. You can always send a technical support email to check.

I stopped by a branch today and spent 30 minutes with customer service. Basically, they said:

A.) They have no record of me being online the day I said I initiated the payment.

B.) They don’t see the payment anywhere in their system.

C.) We recommend you redo the payment.

I’m positive I made the payment Saturday, and I’m almost (97.3%) positive I did it correctly and received the confirmation number (though I didn’t keep it, just as I never do).

So basically, they were no help and I redid the payment. Thankfully it won’t be late. It’ll be interesting if I see a double payment again. If I do, then I’m definitely switching banks.
