Strange Titanic question

Sell it at auction? Sotheby’s? As soon as that necklace came to light it would have caused a sensation to many. So many questions asked! It would make headlines. The insurance company and Cal’s descendents would have flipped out…I prefer to think Old Rose just dreamed of throwing the necklace overboard and the rest of her dream - possibly her actual passing away - was dreaming of her time on the Titanic. With Jack.

Auction house. Or find a special buyer who will buy it on the QT.

Which is also fine- increased visitors to a museum is great.

Also, take the stone out of it’s setting and cut it into smaller stones- still millions of $.

In any case- Cal is dead and Rose can make a legit claim Cal gave it to her- thus the insurance company only have a claim vs Cal for fraud- and he is dead.

In that case- Jack is a child molestor and a pedophile.

I mean, come on- a older man marrying a 17 yo woman still is not unusual- and it totally legal in the UK or USA. And all Rose had to do is announce at the table that the engagement was over.

The last time I saw Casablanca in a theatre, about 6 years ago, I started snuffling and leaking at the opening monologue. My 14 year old niece turned to her aunt to ask, “why is he crying?” My partner replied, “possibly seasonal allergies, more likely, he’s a mush heart. Either way, he’ll be fine.”

Or maybe the Unsinkable Molly Brown.

You mean the bit about refugees from across Europe flocking to places like Casablanca with hopes of making it to the United States? I got kind of choked up when the band at Rick’s played the Marseillaise, but not during the monologue.

But the Unsinkable Molly Brown was already in her 40’s, rich, successful and well known. As opposed to Rose who was none of those things. At 18, Brown was sewing carpets and draperies at a store in Colorado, where she had moved with her siblings. When you are independently rich, you can be eccentric. Not when you area 17 yo nobody.

On the other other hand, it was entirely in her subconscious, after she had just spend the day recounting the entire events. Criticizing her for that is like criticizing someone for being mean to you in a dream.

It’s true the night was very clear, but the conditions of high pressure and extreme cold could very well have produced deceptive visual effects (i.e., mirages).

YouTube has a lot of interviews with survivors from the Titanic. Eva Hart in particular tells of clearly seeing a ship in the distance that couldn’t have helped but notice the rockets being fired into the sky. She can’t say whether or not it was the Californian, but she’s adamant it wasn’t 19 miles away, as is being claimed now.

Well, after seeing it 27 times, “But the others wait in Casablanca… and wait… and wait… and wait” is a trigger.

The Marseilles scene triggers loud sobbing and shouting “No pasaran!” I can’t get anybody to watch a movie with me.

It’s the moment when Rick nods to Laszlo that it’s okay to play the Marseillaise that gets me. Both he and the direction of the story change immediately.

Jeez, I get choked up just thinking about it!

Me, too. Thanks for reducing me to a puddle!

Oops. Just noticed my typo above: meant “La Marseillaise,” of course.

Hey, I went to see Lady and the Tramp with my daughter on Valentine’s Day and had tears welling up during the scene where they eat spaghetti together!

Right, that’s enough of this hijack! :face_exhaling:

Nope, one more: Toy Story 2. The toys are struggling to escape the slag pit(?) and join hands to go out together and burpo is doing his level best to not wail in front of an entire auditorium. Thank you.

Nitpick: That’s in Toy Story 3. 2 has the “When She Loved Me” sequence.

Back around 1990, I went with some friends to see Casablanca at the Rossiya cinema on Pushkin Square in Moscow. At the time, it was the world’s largest with only one enormous screen.

Up to then, I had seen the movie only on TV. Watching it on that gigantic screen was a completely different experience. The black and white images positively glowed with hundreds of shades of grey and silver. It would be an understatement to say I was blown away.

That one turns me into an even bigger bawl baby! Thanks for setting me straight. For the moment.

Nitpick: The nod was to the band after Laszlo’s demand it play the song. And yeah, I tear up every time.

Fun Facts: The song the Germans are singing is The Watch on the Rhine (Die Wacht am Rhein), an old patriotic song. The producers wanted to use the Nazi party anthem Die Fahne Hoch (“Raise the Banner!” aka The Horst Wessel Lied) but they couldn’t because it was copyrighted.

Umm … can we get back to Titanic? I love Casablanca, but while it always leaves a lot of questions; I’m curious as to how Molly Brown has a formal white-tie suit that fits Jack just right. Oh sure, she bought it for her son, so she says, but it fits Jack perfectly, with no tailoring, no adjustments, it fits Jack right off the rack.

I’ve never bought a suit of clothes that fit perfectly off-the-rack. How did this one fit Jack perfectly?
