Have you seen Julien Donkey Boy yet? It’s seriously messed up AND has Werner Herzog. Same writer and director as Gummo (who also helped write Kids)
Hit reply too soon.
As for forbidden Zone, have you seen any of Richard Elfman’s other movies? The only other one i really likd was Shrunken Heads. a great bizarre one. Nothing like a flying zombified head molesting his former girlfriend (who is a willing participant).
What? No one ever sawRepo Man?
Probabvly because no one outside of Utah will have seen it. Only folks into Indie films in Salt Lake have ever seen or heard of it. i liked it a lot myself. I also enjoyed Plan 10 from outer space.
And the hero’s wise teacher Mr Sumatra used to be in the Ton Ton Macoot (spelling almost certainly wrong), the secret police who served Papa Doc and Baby Doc Duvalie. They had a nice record of kidnapping, murder, torture etc.
Shrunken Heads was one of a series of films in which the head of the production company decided to use Roger Corman’s method of coming up with a title, then a poster based on that title, then a script based on the poster. The only other film in the series I can recall OTTOMH is Head Of The Family.
Head Of The Family- (while weird, I did not stumble across it) People in town think that the wealthy and reclusive Stackpoles are triplets. What they don’t know is that there is another, unseen brother who leads the family. Or that the Stackpoles are really one person split into four parts. Wheeler has greatly enhanced senses, and the inteligence of a subpar chimp. Eldon (I think that was his name) has great strength and endurance, and the inteligence of a subpar chimp. Edwina has big boobs, a nice butt, etc and the inteligence of a subpar chimp. The unseen leader of the family has shriveled arms and legs, a tiny body, a three-feet high skull and is a supergenius.
Equinox.
Fantasy writer Fritz Leiber had a supporting role and Ed Begley Jr was the camera assistant!
Paperhouse: an odd British thriller. Charlotte Burke was very entertaining. A pity this was her only role. The whole movie had a creepy feel to it.
Still not available in the US on DVD. I had to get the R4 version.
Norman Loves Rose. I caught this late on HBO one night. I had a brief infactuation with Carol Kane at the time.
Somebody, please tell me you’ve seen Motorama.
This was a late-night, “What the hell is this?” kind of movie experience, and by the end, I was so bewildered that I had to find out more. It’s about a kid who goes on a road trip to escape his parents and win a strange game. And that’s missing the point completely.
It takes place in some alternate reality, where all the characters use Monopoly money and the map of the country is completely unrelated to the US map you’re expecting to see as the protagonist drives from place to place. Nobody ever wonders how a ten-year-old is getting around in a red Mustang, and the movie is conscious of this fact, having the kid wear a fake mustache to fool adults in one scene. It works.
This movie isn’t supposed to be funny, I think, but it doesn’t quite reach the “surrealist masterpiece” that it wants to be. Do yourself a favor and see it…I’ve never met anyone else who’s ever even heard of it!!
I can’t think of anything stranger than “The City of Lost Children.” I cant even begin to describe the insanity. It’s from the same director of Delicatessen and Amelie.
Puppet porn plus a whole lot more.
Amen
That’s a creepy coincidence. I read your message about 10 seconds after I posted this one in the Bialystock and Bloom thread…
The two Liz Taylor-Dick Burton Faust movies-
CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE’S DOCTOR FAUSTUS
and the modern bizarre comedy version with Peter Ustinov
HAMMERSMITH IS OUT.
And for a fun look at when 14 year olds get the vote…
WILD IN THE STREETS.
purely awful- CANDY
wondrous 1960s psychedelic camp THE LOVE INS (Tim Leary ripoff)
and speaking of Tim Leary (who has cameo in this…) Bud Cort’s TED AND VENUS
Yep. I had a bootleg copy I taped from cable back in the '80s, another bootleg from Revok, and a legit copy I bougt on eBay. I’m glad I finally got the DVD. Lots of good extras including footage from Mystic Knights performances.
Liquid Sky is one of the classic cult films! I haven’t seen any of RE’s other films, unfortunately.
I’ve had this one in the collection for a while. I just watched it again a few weeks ago.
It’s amazing the number of films people have mentioned that I have on my shelves!
Breakfast of Champions
I’m told the movie makes more sense if you’re familiar with the book, but after the first twenty minutes or so, I just had to stop watching it. I could not figure out for the life of me what was supposedly going on there.
The mention of The Man Who Fell To Earth (which I have on DVD) reminded me of The Last Days Of Man On Earth (which I have on VHS).
Has anyone seen that one?
I would have to say pretty much anything that was shown on USA’s old Night Flight show, especially Zardoz as mentioned earlier, but the strangest of all would have to be Fantastic Planet.
