Was this before or after Jethro Tull won the “Best Metal Album” Grammy?
Waitresses and Oingo Boingo halfway makes sense, because they were both considered New Wave bands.

1980, well before that nonsense. Foresightful!
Yeah, I see the thinking on that bill, but Oingo Boingo had taken a harder edge - it was a mosh pit down front - and they heckled poor Patty Donahue mercilessly.
Heh. I saw Remi Wolfe opening for Olivia Rodrigo. Rodrigo does swear a little (see the unexpurgated version of “Vampire”) but Wolfe swore a lot. Personally I found her getting an arena full of under-18 girls to all scream “MOTHERFUCKER!” to be hilarious. Not sure if the other parents in attendance thought so.
Lil Wayne opening for Blink-182
Since someone mentioned John Cooper Clarke already, I’ll note I saw the late Allan Ginsberg and the not-late Philip Glass do a concert together. It was fascinating. Ginsberg played the harmonium and sang. Glass played the piano. Sometimes they did this together, but mostly they alternated.
I saw X open for Oingo Boingo. It doesn’t seem as jarring now as it did in 1982. They had completely different groups of fans back then.
