Strangest Pandora channel?

I have been listening to a Tom Waits channel. Love Tom. Love his associates as well.

I woke up in the middle of the night with Showboat playing on my phone going “What the hell kind of music is that…sounds like…Showboat?” I’ve never seen Showboat, but something tipped me off that that’s what it was. My next thought was “What the hell channel did I fall asleep to that eventually ended up playing Showboat” as I unlocked my phone and tried to stop the music with the screen blinding me. “Ahhhh, I created a ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ Channel when I went to bed, which, for Pandora meant SHOWTUNES!!!”
For me, however, Rocky Horror Picture Show music doesn’t mean showtunes. Yet another reason why, after creating a new station because I want to hear a song by that artist, I always go back to QuickMix.

I have a “Billy Don’t Be A Hero” station.

I created a Ron White channel, and then set about confusing Pandora because I like no other “blue collar/redneck” comedian.

I’ve got a Richard Cheese channel that gives me a lot of Tenacious D, Stephen Lynch, and Loney Island. Kind of novelty/humor music.
When kids are in the car I put on the Crazy Frog channel.

So, what does RHPS music mean to you? Meat Loaf? Parody goth like Shriekback? Or just a particular type of showtunes? (Never having seen RHPS, I wouldn’t know.)

I have the opposite problem, I want music like my favorite artists, but not by my favorite artists because I already have their entire discographies and could listen to them at any time. ETA: although if I did add Townes van Zandt to a Pandora station, I would probably encounter your problem as well.

I’m not really sure (and that’s the beauty of Pandora). I can just say that I wasn’t expecting to fall asleep to this* and wake up to, um, not that. I tried to find a good example, but I have no idea what it was, maybe it wasn’t Showboat. Musicman maybe? Who knows. I guess I just wasn’t expecting it to go with musicals instead of just running with that style of music. OTOH, I think I just wasn’t expecting to fall asleep so quickly. Like I said, normally, if I want to hear something by a specific artist I go to that channel (or make a channel for that artist) listen to the first song (which is usually by that artist) and then go back to QuickMix.

*Yes, that is Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick

I think any new Pandora ‘channel’ will wander considerably if you let it play and play without indicating preferences (yea or nay) on anything that comes up.

I have a Cyndi Lauper channel. I love her and most of the music on the channel. But I thumbs-down any Madonna tune that plays. I’m seeing less Madonna played, but still one every so often. Will they ever 86 Madonna???

I have a Miff Mole channel. Every so often, Pandora asks me forlornly if I am going to add anything to my Miff Mole channel, or if I am going to stick to Bix Beiderbecke.
