This probably is not the most intellectual topic in the world, but I have no one to ask for the answer.
I just got back from a business trip to St. Louis. After blowing some cash at one of the casinos, one of the guys asked a bartender where the gang could find a strip bar. We were informed that we should go to Illinois.
Well we weren’t driving 15 miles so we asked someone else in the bar where we could go. Again, we hear Illinois.
So this morning I asked a friend why. She didn’t know why, but did know that everyone goes to Illinois.
So what’s the SD? Is there some strange Missouri law (like no free drinks in the casinos)? Or has Illinois become so depraved that St. Louis simply can’t compete?
There are certainly strip clubs in Kansas City and “gentleman’s clubs” in some rural areas I drive through. They may be prohibited in the city/county of St. Louis, but not in the state of Missouri.
Exactly. East Saint Louis has a sort of strip club industrial park (barbed wire and guards around the parking lot). Nice place three or four places in a disused factory or something. I had a good time.
Strip clubs in Illinois are open until 4:00, as opposed to 2:00 in Missouri. As such, all the good strip clubs have decided to set up shop in Illinois.
This information is from a friend who lives in the area, and enjoys strippers, not handed down to me on stone tablets. Supposedly, there are whole mini malls of strip clubs in those parts.
Don’t forget to stock up on fireworks in Missouri before you head over, you’ll want to have something to do after the late night ballet.
They’re all in East St. Louis aka the ‘east side.’ Dunno why. I know there’s at least one here in Columbia and I think one at the Ozarks, judging from radio ads.
I don’t speak from personal experience (really!) but I think St. Louis has stricter laws about how customers can interact with the performers. No touching, etc.
My friend was married in St. Louis in the early 90’s. One of his local pals and I took him to a strip club the night before the Big Day. His pal was very much the expert in such matters and made it very clear that we would be going to Illinois. We went to a couple of places just east of East St. Louis.
What casino were you visiting where it would take 15 miles to get to a Sauget strip club? If you were on the river (and last I was aware of such things all the casinos were) then it’s more like a 5 minute drive to PT’s / Roxy’s / Bottoms Up.
St. Louis does have some (Chouteau Men’s Club comes to mind) but that would be much farther from the casinos on the riverfront.
Reader note: My knowledge is several years old. Although I did grow up there, the last time I was there was for a bachelor party in ~ 2000.
Harrah’s and Ameristar are both on the Missouri, one on either side (Harrah’s is in North St. Louis County (Bridgeport?) while Ameristar is in St. Charles). They’re quite a ways from the east side.
Nuh-uh! They have a Phillip’s 66! With hookers! And blackjack!

Seriously, it does have some slots and Off-Track Betting. One of our customers is one of the chemical factories, and we often kill time at the '66 waiting on a tank to be emptied or something before we can work on it.
Woot!!! Yes Sauget does have gas stations too, didn’t know about the slots though. I just drive thru it every day, blechhhhhh. And fachverwirrt is correct they have the Grizzlies as well. Funny I never think of that ballpark as being a part of Sauget. :smack:
