I know the link betweeen pornagraphy and crime is a myth, but what about strip clubs? Do areas really experience higher crime rates when a strip club or adult entertainment venue opens nearby?
Only credible sources please!!!

It would be hard to find a nice, crime-free neighborhood that would let a strip club open up in their back yard so we could study this. But I rather suspect that whoever makes that claim has misjudged cause & effect. Club operators probably have less of a fight if they open up shop in the seedy, crime-ridden parts of town, so that’s where they open up.
I recently spent some time in Ft. Lauderdale where the willie bars I saw all seemed to be in fairly nice neighborhoods. One was even next door to a police station.
I can’t even get the lingo right. Should have said “weenie bars”.
“weenie bar”? That give’s me the willies…
More crime, oh well. Freedom comes with a price! I should be able to open a titty bar anywhere zoned for a regular bar, while Attrayant goes to his weenie bars. Whatever you’re into bro.
From what I have seen, they don’t. At least compared to an ordinary bar or even a restaraunt with a bar. Security is tighter, the grounds are more protected - they are more likely to be fenced, and they are particularly tight about keeping the social activity within the building. More so than the other establishments.
FWIW, I don’t hear of much crime in North Beach here, which is home to quite a few “Gentleman’s Clubs” around Broadway and Columbus. In fact, it’s also quite the destination for locals and tourists alike, since there’s all kinds of restaurants and such right there next to Big Al’s and Centerfolds.
There’s a few strip clubs in the Tenderloin, which is most definitely not a nice neighborhood, but I doubt the strip clubs’ absence would do much for the neighborhood.
