Striperella--brilliant idea or complete crap?

I was watching TNN (now billed as the “Station for Men”) and saw a commercial for a new animated series called Striperella which stars the voice of Pamela Anderson, who plays a stripper superhero.
Ok…I realize that comics genius Stan Lee is behind this but c’mon really? A stripper superhero?
I am awed…and disgusted…and curious. All at the same time.

Well…I’d at least give it a look. It sounds like an amusing premise, would be interesting to see if they go somewhere good with it.

Yeah…I’m gonna give it a chance, if only to see what happens. I am intrigued, at the very least.
It might be good…who knows?

IDBB

It might be so bad it’s entertaining.

I’m a fan of Roger Corman (one of the few directors to AIM for that and HIT.), so my view of these things might be a tad skewed, though. (Hmm…part of me suddenly wonders if he’s involved in this somehow…)

Nice to know Stan’s libedo is still working fine after all those years.

Those that can do, those that can’t write about it.

Hence Robert Heinleins supersexual heroines in his last few novels.

At least that properly explains the outrageous (not that I’m complaining, mind you) proportions that some superheroines have. And the constantly erect nipples.

Oh my, that was uncalled for. And wrong. He wrote “Glory Road” something like 40 years years ago, right? Not to mention SiaSL. Publishers became a LOT more comfortable with sex during the 70’s. By the time a book like “Friday” showed up, he could finally write whatever he wanted to without having to censor himself.

Stan Lee was a hell of a cartoonist back in the 60s and 70s.

And Phil Esposito was a hell of a hockey player back then, too. Would he be your first pick for an All-Star team in 2003?

Anything with Pamela Anderson in it is going to be stupid and crappy, whether it’s animated or not.

Tell that to Batgirl :stuck_out_tongue: (for the whooshed: in the last - horrible - Batman movie, Batman’s and Robin’s costumes had nipples built-in on the suit tops while Batgirl’s didn’t) No, but really, in my memory, most comic superheroines traditionally have anatomies that defy gravity, and outfits that defy a whole buncha other laws of physics, but nipples are smoothed over.

Back to the issue: I wonder about the combination of Stan Lee with Pam Anderson only because their recent track record is underwhelming (Anderson’s Barb Wire and VIP; Stan Lee’s attempt to go dot-com, which went down in a godawful mess complete with accountants on the lam ). But it MAY be, as pointed out before, a “so bad it’s good” kind of thing. We can only hope. For some performers there is gold in embracing the role as a caricature of themselves (vide William Shatner) but we’ll have to see if Pamela is there yet.

TNN’s Station for Men gimmick is leading up to a name change soon. According to a brief article I read, around June 16th they are set to become Spike TV.

Stan and Pam? I saw the ad, when will programmers learn: people want to look at Pam not listen to her. People weren’t watching Baywatch and VIP for the storylines and rapier-sharp dialogue. A cartoon Pam? Hey some people still have the Betty or Wilma argument, and some people get way too into anime babes for their own good. So who knows?

I like and admire Stan Lee, but can anybody remember the last successful comic series Stan Lee had hands on involvement in?

I was behind this idea until I read this thread. Then it suddenly hit me what the draw of this is (yes, yes, it’s early. Don’t get on my case- no coffee in my system yet.)

“She’s a superhero, and a stripper, and that means we get to see…”

What? Animated women with large breasts? And as it’s on TNN, there won’t be nudity or anything, assumedly, so… Watching a drawing of a woman doing the ‘tease’ thing? Don’t get me wrong, I know that sells, but when it comes to advertising a show about a superheroine where the main draw is the tease (I mean, c’mon, does anyone know anything about the character other than ‘she’s a stripper’?) I think I can safely take a pass, thanks. I want something like that, there’s this whole thing called ‘The internet’… Has all the graphic tease I could ever want, usually grouped by category.

Besides, I have to agree with Widdershins’ comment about people not looking for Pamela for her voice, and with Stan Lee’s name pasted all over it, let’s just say I don’t think my libido could handle the imagery.

Well, most superheroes are strippers when you get right down to it. They just stop at their underwear…

Actually, I don’t think Lee was ever a cartoonist. I’ve never seen anything he drew. He was the scripter and editor.

Matey–have you watched ANYTHING on TNN lately? They only censor out what the network forces them to. If it weren’t for the censors, they’d be going hogwild with whitetrash-oriented naked chicks and stuff.

Yup. And Striperella is gonna have some of the biggest jugs a cartoon chick ever had. I think that was Pam’s idea.:stuck_out_tongue:

[hijack]widdershins–do you think this whole ‘tv for men’ gimmick is a sort of rebellion against Lifetime (Tv for Women)? My hubby said it the other day…women have their own special TV network. WHy can’t mean do the same? And I thought well you mean other than six channels of ESPN and FOXSports and the Golf Channel and the All Fishing Channel?:dubious: [/hijack]
Cal–methinks you’re right.

Comics2Film’s take on Stripperella
TV Tome quotes Stripperella as being a ‘real family show’. Um…yeah. That’s something I really would like for my little girls (if I had any) to watch. A stripper superheroine.
Apparently, according to TV TOME, Pammie also gets to have input on the scripts. I wonder if she’ll improve them any.

From TV Tome:

She can knock out guys with her THIGHS?WTF? What kind of lamoid superpower is that?
And she can tell if guys are lying by touching her breasts? Oh gimme a break! And then there’s the digital camera under her tongue…oy.:smack:

I predict that once the initial six eps air…the whole thing goes down the tubes cuz it sucks so badly.

IDBB

Don’t women already have this ability?

Don’t I wish?!?

IDBB

Perhaps they can at least salvage the title.

I see a remake of Stripes, with Jane Fonda in the Bill Murray role.

“But I love you baby.”

“Uh oh, bresty sense tingling!”
