Studies You Wish Someone Would Do

That’s not what I was saying, and if you think it is…wait, this isn’t the Pit. I’ll keep my peace. What I’m saying is, as a parent, your first and foremost job is not to make yourself comfortable, it’s to provide for your children. If that means they eat and you don’t, so be it.

What I’m saying is that you can’t go out clubbing every night when you have a toddler. Unfortunately, your average young mother is incapable of comprehending that there just might be something more important than she in the world.

I’m very much against spoiling your children or making them believe that they are the most important thing in the world; but in the world of parents, your children really should come first. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t teach them humility or the golden rule and all of that jazz; it means that their welfare comes first, not yours. But for God’s sake, don’t tell them that, or they’ll hold it above your head.

Has anyone ever studied the relationship between the height a truck is jacked up and the size of the owner’s genitals? I saw one such monster truck with tires nearly as tall as I am at the grocery store parking lot recently and wondered if the poor guy had an “innie.”

Heh, sorry, I really didn’t mean to come off like I disagreed with you, I fully agree in that people should not just think of themselves. I just thought it seemed like a self-stabilizing situation – on average I would expect neglected children of narcissists to be less narcissistic than their parents. However, I also meant to say that the flipside of this is that narcissism is not very good for a partnership either, and can easily cause a family to fall apart.

I’ve always though someone should do a study to see if certain sterotypes about the sexual orientation of males in traditionally female proffesions (nursing, flight attendents, etc) are actually true. Ditto for cheerleaders (though I can think of at least one very straight male former cheerleader  ).

Actually cheerleading, or more specifically ‘yell leading’, started out as an mostly male domain anyway. Yell leaders were the guys who would use megaphones to lead their school’s supporters in yelling out various cheers and chants. Most schools in the early years of the 20th century and before seem to have had a particular yell called “the school yell”. I think most schools still have male yell leaders, though their role may be less prominent than it used to be.

I’d like to see hard statistics on partial-birth abortion. When it was a hot issue a while back, I tried and tried to find some numbers and no one had them.

I would also like to see the numbers for what it costs to keep marijuana illegal.

I’d also like a study to see how many republicans would electrocute an unrepentant liberal democrat to death when instructed to by Halliburton. Just kidding!

I’d like to see a study done on what people actually believe about God and the origins of the earth. The first question could be, “How old do you believe the Earth is?” I bet the vast majority of answers fall around 4 billion years. I suspect that most people believe in evolution, but will say they don’t if you use the word, “evolution.”

I have also long harbored the sneaking suspicion that most Christians are Arians.

The rate of blood clotting problems ‘created’ by hormonal birth control consumption. There’s already enough data out there that there are class action lawsuits about it (Depo) but some of us who were on orals have the problem after a while, for a while. I’d like to nail down about how long it takes to start having problems, how long to clear it up, and to add screening for the blood clotting problems to the (std insurance paid for) standard protocol of yearly checkups for women to get them onto other kinds of birth control before they either do have a blood clot or lose multiple pregnancies. Till then I guess I’ll volunteer to pay for my daughter’s and niece’s quarterly blood tests if they start hormonal birth control.

How to manufacture a see-through towel.

I’d like to see a study that discovers why it so happens that when 2 people break up, one of then ends up married (to someone else, natch) shortly thereafter.

I have a hand full of cases to get them started on the study.

Have you looked into the work done by Dorothy Lewis and Jonathan Pincus? There are others, too, but Pincus and Lewis have done quite a lot of interesting work in this area.

The relationship between heavy periods, estrogen levels and saturated fat intake.
The relationship between the occurance of UTIs and consumption of the following in the evening:
Vitamin C
Calcium
Sugar
The relationship between sexual position and UTI occurance.
Finally (for now), I suspect that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is caused by a specific prostoglandin.

Research to see if dogs can be trained to detect, and pee on, crab grass.

Feed a cold? Starve a feeder?

Considering that no such research exists, I’d like to see a study on the personalities of people who assert :dubious: that a link exists between genital size and tire size, gun ownership, SUV size, car stereo loudness, etc.

Does canned pet food cause pet obesity?

If a city outlaws cats, what happens to the populations of rodents and birds?

I too think there should be some research just to answer the damn question one way or another – consider it a service to Internet debaters everywhere.

I’d like to see a study done on how small/large of an positive impact a foster family has on healing/mitigating the heart & soul of children in foster care and IF healing takes place, is it short term or long term.

No smirking, now: I want someone to find out if there’s something in vaginal secretions or microflora that prevents tooth decay. Really. Honest to God.

I’d like them to conduct a study that re-gives many women the standard driver’s test for acquiring one’s license, and compares the scores of women who drive minivans to those who drive traditional cars.

Study how often owners of behemoth SUVs actually use them in a manner that requires their size, power and ruggedness. Estimate how much of the time they could be replaced with a compact sedan, with no reduction in utility.

I would like to see how the US DOf education has benefitted us. I believ that carter set it up-so, show us how the hundreds of billions of $ have improved:
student reading comprehension
-student math proficiency
-HS graduation rates
-HS SAT test scores
I would really like to know what we get for all that money!

I want to know if CSI has any noticeable impact on he crime rate in the countries where it’s on the tube.
