“circle your calenders”? Move to Defcon 4 is more like it! I have to go make sure the cable’s hooked up in the underground bunker, wouldn’t want to miss it…
Does it count if you wish you were stoned when you’re watching it?
I think TDS has a firm grasp of something that’s missing in most every other venue: irony. I listen to NPR, read the New York Times (online, of course) and hang around here, but almost every night TDS comes up with some tidbit that fair makes my hair smolder…
…oh, shit, no, that’s a roach I dropped!! Somebody get that, would you?
One of the funniest things I remember from the “Indecision 2000”…
(I’m paraphrasing this. Poorly. Sorry, but my recollection ain’t great - I’ve spent the last 4 years stoned.)
After all, CC refers to TDS as “America’s #1 fake news show”. That there are people who actually GET their information from TDS should be cause for worry.
Actually I think CC stopped doing that. At least they don’t do it on the commercials anymore.
And TDS is a good place to get your news because it is easy to tell what the real part of the news is and what the joke is.
But you sort of have to be informed to understand a lot of the jokes anyway, right? Honestly, I would imagine that TDS views would be pretty close to a cross-section of young viewers. Some would obviously be stoners, but really for O’Reilly to dismiss TDS is really telling since it doesn’t purport to be a real news sorce anyway. Is he feeling threatened or what?
Honestly GWB has been comic gold for Jon Stewart because he makes those jokes that we are all thinking about the press and other stuff. Its pretty funny to me.
The segments are great too. It really show you how ridiculous it is sometimes that journalists make an argument for the sake of showing one side. Note how Ed Helms once argued against a ban on firearms in bars. His best line ever IMO is this on
He was arguing something about how he didn’t really understand and said,
“Alcohol creates problems… and guns solve them”
