This morning, my dad helped me move some boxes of stuff from my closet to the attic. Most of it was old tax records, my brother’s stuff, that kind of thing.
One small but heavy box was marked “Robin’s Stuff”. Not having any conceivable clue what was in it, I opened it.
I found:
[list]
[li]Pictures of my son (which I thought had been lost forever)[/li][li]Pictures of the rest of my family[/li][li]A jewelry box with earrings, an old bracelet, my FIRST wedding ring, and a charm with my son’s initials and date of birth that I got right after he was born. The charm is now on my necklace.[/li][li]My candlesticks and menorah[/li][li]My Navy discharge certificate and paperwork, including dental X-rays[/li][li]My old wallet, with my college ID[/li][li]Some miscellaneous crap[/li]
Suffice it to say, finding those pictures and that charm really blew my mind. I thought that stuff had been lost forever, and I am VERY happy that I have it.
Robin
I love when that happens! When I was little, I used to clear out all the drawers and shelves and cabinets in my room every few months looking for that lost piece of treasure. I’m so happy you ran across those pictures and the charm. What a nice surprise!
Oh, Robyn, that is so beautiful. I’m happy for you!
My mom moved last year, from the house where I grew up to a small apartment. My sisters and I went and got all our “stuff” in boxes she had been storing for years and I found a virtual treasure trove of stuff I hadn’t seen in years, some of which I thought was lost.
Among my finds:
Pictures of a dear friend who passed away suddenly two years ago. My friend Marie and I had gone to the beach for a weekend while in college. We went in one of those “4 pictures for $1” booths on the boardwalk and got several of those little strips done…making faces, being silly, being serious, you know how you get with friends. They turned out really well of both of us, and I loved them. I lost track of them years ago, and finding the pictures of her brought tears to my eyes.
Other photos from high school and college. Funny to see pictures after so many years. There were a bunch of pictures of people I don’t know (or can’t remember). Definately my pics, but this one group of photos was totally unknown.
Photos from summer camp. My snapshots and the big group photos.
Papers from high school and college. Just weird to read stuff I had written so long ago.
Report cards from elementary school and junior high that my mom had saved. I have no idea where my HS report cards are.
Class photos from elementary school. Gotta love those early-70’s fashions! <gag> My sixth-grade individual photo ('76…Bicentennial) has me clutching a little replica of the Liberty Bell, with a flag waving in the background. Very cheesy.
A ring a high school boyfriend had given to me. Silver with a dark blue stone (lapis, maybe?). Not valuable, but still pretty.
