Time Life just released the entire 6-season run of “Mama’s Family” in one $200 collection. I’m sure there are fans but that’s a steep price (it’s only available via their website; no amazon discounts) for a show that’s usually a pop culture punchline.
Yeah, but there’s a marketing plan for that one.
This is another problem: the release the first season of a show that didn’t really become “classic” until season 2/3 and the first season doesn’t sell well so they abandon the series.
“Newhart” is a great example of this. The first season doesn’t have Stephanie & Peter or Larry, Daryl & Daryl but it’s the only season available. “St. Elsewhere” is another show that apparently got a S1 release and then dropped.
Ahh, the movie that was basically a big commercial for the NES and Super Mario Brothers 3.
I actually really liked it when I was kid. Haven’t seen it in years, though, and have no idea how it would hold up.
It’s surprisingly decent. It’s not a GOOD movie, but the filmmakers had a bit more in mind than just making a 90-minute Nintendo commercial.
Bob Newhart’s later series, Bob, is an even more extreme example. It was a workplace comedy but Newhart’s character switched job between the first and second season so the second season had an essentially new cast and setting.
Yes, but the second season of Bob isn’t worth watching. But I’d love to see the first season again.
I can still sing the theme song from “My Mother the Car”. “F-Troop” too!
What a waste of storage space in my brain.

Also, Murphy Brown, but this one has an asterisk; the “official” reason was that, while the Season 1 sales were respectable, subsequent seasons used far more Motown music, and the numbers didn’t justify what the music rights would cost (and replacing the music would ruin the series - somebody learned a lesson from WKRP in Cincinnati).
The second season only lasted eight episodes. So they’ve combined them together and released it as a “Complete Series” set.
