The Man From Snowy River andThe Return to Snowy River.
“Santa Claus Conquers the Martians”
Now THAT’S fun stuff.
Meh, The Goonies is an incredibly stupid movie. Of course, I only came to that conclusion on my 56,234th intentional viewing of it. But no way does it compare to Snow Day. I mean, compare the villains. Mama Fritelli can in no way hold a candle to
Snow Plow Man!
This is one of my top ten favorite movies. The kids and I know it by heart; in fact, sometimes we start doing quotes from the movie and just go on throwing lines at each other for an hour or more.
I remember thinking that it didn’t look like a very good movie from the trailer.
[David Spade] Don’t you say a word. [/David Spade]
I’ll see you and raise you one “Garfield”.
I dunno about the others, but Emperor’s New Groove is stupid. Stooooopid. The comedy relies entirely on dumbass anachronistic gags and an aren’t - we - just - too - hip - to - play - anything - straight attitude that makes you cringe when it is forced to go saccharine and sincere by virtue of being a Disney flick. The animation ain’t no great shakes, either. And I have no idea how to feel about exploiting an ancient, dead, poorly-understood culture to make a kid’s movie. But, best not to think about it. Better to just give into the filmmaker’s breezy attitude: Let’s not invest any time in the culture at all—just rip off some visual elements, and we’re good to go. But why even be consistent visually? That would be insufficiently zany. The villain is a mad scientist who splits her time between a slinky gown and a lab coat. Luckily, the great empires of Mesoamerica died out due to famine, warfare, disease, Conquistadors, or all of the above, so there’s none left to complain about exploitation. Just in case, let’s have Sting do the soundtrack, and then it’ll be deep.
And yet, I’ve seen it about five times.
But…but…but…she’s EARTHA KITT!!!
I’d pay good money to listen to that woman read a phone book…
The Lion King. Yes, I’ve watched it recently.
Oh man, I forgot about Thomasina! I loved that cat!
And I agree with The Emperor’s New Groove being hilarious.

The Lion King is far below your level of maturity and intelligence, and of which you shouldn’t lower yourself to enjoying? It’s a classic. Nothing stupid or shameful about it.
Zebra in the Kitchen
Goonies
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, thanks to Dick van Dyke’s amazing performances.
The following are movies I liked as a child or teenager that I’ll still watch today at 35 years old:
The Muppet Movie (I even have the DVD)
The Goonies
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
These are movies that (for whatever reason) I happened to see as an adult that I would probably watch if nothing else were on:
The Little Rascals
Dennis the Menace
My Girl
My Girl 2
This last group are movies that I love as an adult that I will be buying soon, since I’m pregnant and will now have an excuse to own:
**Shrek
Shrek 2
Monsters, Inc. ** (yes, I cried…what?)
Toy Story
Toy Story 2
A Bugs Life
The Incredibles (okay, I already own this one)
Okay, I just realized the thread is movies we are ashamed to like. In that case, my list will be cut down to:
The Little Rascals
Dennis the Menace
My Girl 2
First off, Podkayne, while I grant all your critiques of The Emporer’s New Groove I still find it a fun movie, and have no desire to feel ashamed at my enjoyment of it.
I am, however, ashamed to actually have taped the US Broadcast version of Sailor Omigawd what am I doing? Moon. (Yes, that is the full, complete, and proper name for the translated version of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon.)
I am also ashamed to admit I have enjoyed watching the first Air Bud movie. Twice. In the theatres, even.
I am also ashamed to admit I’ve enjoyed watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show. But only in theatres. It doesn’t work on TV alone.
I am not ashamed to admit that I love Little Giants. It’s just astoundingly well made – well plotted, well acted, very funny. You could teach a screenwriting course on that movie alone – how every payoff is set up, how every setup pays off.

I’ve noticed that no one has yet posted Home Alone.
Could it be that in a thread where you’re allowed to post what you’re ashamed of, you too ashamed to post that?
Just another member of the Emperor’s New Groove appreciation fan club. If Chuck Jones had done a Disney cartoon, this would have been it.
