Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 1)

See, that case in Oregon is being handled exactly as I think we should–as I read the news, he is charged with manslaughter in the first degree, which is a class A felony in Oregon. I sincerely hope he gets convicted and gets to spend the rest of his natural life in prison for his idiotic carelessness.

I note that, at least in the article I read that summarized the charges here (http://www.katu.com/news/local/5-year-old-dead-man-charged-with-manslaughter-machine-gun-possession-Grants-Pass-213529681.html), he’s also charged with unlawful possession of a restricted/prohibited weapon. The stupid gun news of the day is the terrible enforcement of our extant gun laws that’s a side effect of the ridiculousness of the national debate on the issue.

A better way to handle it would have been not to let it happen in the first place, hmm?

This “law abiding” stuff only seems to kick in for you guys *after *somebody gets hurt or killed, or close to it. Why is that?

Because prior restraint runs afoul of that archaic “liberty” thing the signers of the Declaration of Independence kept yammering about.

His weapon was *already *illegal. Why did he have it, if your methods work so well?

Not sure how prior restraint is involved, but there are certainly many examples of things that individuals are prohibited from possessing that do not present unreasonable challenges to liberty.

Whose liberty are you referring to? The victims?

They haven’t worked so well because irresponsible, fearful yahoos like you keep fighting it. As you fucking well know.

Missouri legislature will try again to nullify all federal gun laws:

Yeah right, arrest a federal agent for enforcing federal law. That’ll work just dandy. :smack:

ETA: there are important fights to fight over gun rights; this is not the way.

Y’know, I wrote a letter to Toomey when he put up that gun bill, saying it was literally the first thing he’d done since he was elected my senator that I could respect him for.

But that’s fine, you just keep trying to radicalize me. I’m actually 3/4 convinced you’re a LaPierre groupie playing some sort of stupid false flag game to convince people there actually ARE gun grabbers out there.

Fascinating. Colorado should try that with federal marijuana laws. “We reject your reality, and substitute our own!”

I can’t decide if I should pop popcorn or just pull up a lawn chair. I predict exactly 0% increase in successful lawsuits against the Feds and incidents of people opening fire on federal officers.

I think at this point, the best way to deal with right wing kooks is not to argue with them, as they cannot be reasoned with; but to stoke their fear, anger and ignorance so they will move even further out on the extreme right limb and, as exemplified by this latest nutbaggery, saw it off behind themselves.

And drive prices up, so I can sell my Evil Black Guns!

Going back to the original thread with this lovely story of two law abiding gun carrying campers who suddenly weren’t law abiding anymore. For added juicyness they are both also LA deputies.

BTW, IMHO, Zeriel is one of the few rational folks in this thread. And I apologize for getting apeshit several pages back, I try not to read anything DA says but sometimes I slip. I am not against guns, I am not a gun grabber. I actually own several rifles I got when my dad died. They are safely stored in a gun safe.

You are kidding, but it’s gonna happen.

You’re doing quite well all by yourself.

I’d like you to point out something I’ve said, anywhere on the dope (let alone in this thread), that could be construed in context as “radically pro-gun”.

Your brush is too broad, ElvisL1ves. Zeriel is quite reasonable and very different from the nut jobs and morons on the gun advocacy side in this debate.

A matter of style, not substance. A lack of froth on the lips when stating a position does not make the position reasonable.
