Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 1)

I am still a tiny bit uncertain what exactly “bear arms” is supposed to mean. This story is a few months old, but it puts a whole nother disturbing wrinkle into 2A rights.

In Tombstone, Arizona they did a Wild West gunfight reenactment–and one of the actor used a gun loaded with real bullets–and wounded another actor:

He got through the day without shooting himself. That must be a matter of pride for gun owners.

It’s the same as if he’d worn women’s underwear. As long as no one knows he’s wearing a bra and panties, or that he needs a gun to feel like a man, his dirty little secret is safe.

The only thing that stops a bad actor with a gun is a good actor with a gun.

Technical question: Isn’t there less recoil, if any, when shooting blanks? Wouldn’t the shooter have felt he was firing bullets after the first shot?

Perhaps I misunderstood you; I took your post to mean that anti-gunners object to carry at all, not just open carry.

Maybe he had no experience with guns and didn’t know what it should feel like, or maybe he had experience with guns but no experience with blanks.

Possibly, but I think the physics of shooting blanks vs. bullets, if there’s a difference, still merits some interest in this story. If I was an LEO on the case I’d want to know.

OK. so what IS the upside to the private ownership of guns?

I think the gun rights side has agreed (on multiple occasions) that deaths due to accidental and negligent discharge is clearly a downside to private gun ownership.

Which of the benefits of gun ownership (if any) do you think exist? because as far as I can tell, the reason you think the downside FAR outweighs the upside is because you haven’t really identified any upside. You haven’t been willing to concede that the primary benefits of private gun ownership (as seen by the gun rights side) even exist.

Why are you asking *him *to identify the upside of widespread gun ownership when you can’t do it yourself?

I’d *rather *know why there was a real bullet in the gun.

Bad parenting is bad parenting. There is a shitload of things from rat poison to razor blades and guns that a responsible parent would make sure their toddlers don’t have access to. I agree leaving loaded guns around the house with toddlers present borders on child endangerment but toddlers are fragile enough that just having stairs that are not child-proofed can kill toddlers. These are just bad parents and they should have their children taken away from them until they can prove they can be good parents.

If you want a law that says that parents need to take a class and pass a test before they can be parents, that they need to baby-proof their home and basically go through everything an adoptive parent has to go through before becoming a parent (including gun safety instruction), I would agree with you.

cite?

This may coincidentally be the case but one does not lead to the other.

Stupidest gun control idea ever. But good luck with that.

How about a summary rather than merely a link to a video?

Because I think I understand every argument and reason why gun control folks dislike guns. Both the rational reasons and the irrational ones.

I don’t think you know or even care to know what the arguments are for gun ownership.

What you don’t realize is, there is going to be new gun regulation of some kind. You can either participate and influence the outcome, or you can continue your unrealistic fantasy that nothing is going to change. That is very shortsighted, because you risk getting new regulations that are stronger than if you made reasonable proposals of your own, and work with the growing constituency that is demanding tighter background checks. The status quo is not an option.

You show exactly zero signs of having such understanding.

How about a quick summary, then?

Because we’re waiting to hear it out of an anti-gunner’s mouth: that they at least comprehend, even if they don’t agree with it, why some people believe gun ownership is a positive thing. At least something beyond “you’re insane!”, which seems to be the limit of your understanding.

What have you offered for anyone to “comprehend”? Besides some absurd porn about Resisting Tyranny, that is.

I rest my case.
