Stupid Gun news of the day (Part 1)

I agree with this. Handguns should remain holstered, long guns should be cased or scabbarded.

  1. I believe I was upfront with the caveats about the novel and its author. The quoted passage stands on its own merits.

  2. If it came to that pass, I have no idea if I’d be alone, one of many similarly motivated acting individually, or part of an organized group. Ultimately one can only be responsible for one’s own actions. I’d do what I felt I had to do even if, like the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, it was mostly too little too late.

  3. Blessedly, it currently has little to do with reality, as was mentioned upthread about the health of our current democracy. I believe fighting against gun control is important to keeping it from ever coming to that.

It strikes me that this isn’t really relevant. He could have had it holstered and still gone on to do what he did.

Lumpy. Dude. Even ***Damuri ***thinks your militia/tyranny stuff is whacko.

Go outside and get some fresh air. You’ll feel much better.

You are the brazil84 of gun control. You do far more to hurt your cause than help it.

Net gun benefits requires weighing the benefits and burdens of legal private gun ownership. When people pretend there are no benefits, I bring up the LA riots.

You think its racist but that’s because your stupid.

I disagree. Democracies become tyrannies because the tyrants are voted in. Then the tyrants presumably dismantle the democracy and everyone else stands by and lets this happen. I don’t see how the second part happens without complicity from the military and without a military class, I don’t see how THAT happens.

To take the Nazi example, gun laws were loosened for everyone that was not prohibited person (which now included Jews). the average German citizen had more access to guns under Hitler than under the Weimar Republic and yet…

That fact that you think that I am extreme on gun rights just highlights how you stupid you are. You demonize pretty much anyone that disagrees with you. If you were born in a Red State, you would be a ranking member of the Tea Party. Your views are a product of your environment not your thinking.

3 shot when man drops gun in Fla. Cracker Barrel

There you go. We need to outlaw kettles; and talking checkout counters.

Guns don’t kill people, random flying hyuk hyuk my o butterfingers me bullet fragments do. (Although, no one was killed there, they ONLY got shot. Hyuk hyuk.)

And only 33% of them even needed hospital care. No biggee, right? Just a typical Sunday morning Cracker Barrel breakfast in Florida.

…wait… I just realized that this was in Florida. Why does this kind of stupid shit seem to almost always happen in Florida?

I heard that Florida’s open government laws make it easier for cases to make news, they aren’t really all that much weirder there than other places.

Interesting. We all joke about Florida, but I’ve suspected that it was a case of confirmation bias or something. I’ve certainly never seen anything to indicate, for example, that here in PA we have a superior breed of humans incapable of the type of stupidity we hear about so much from Florida.

It may be a matter of confirmation bias combined with open government laws.

You’ve been asked, repeatedly, what they are. You have *no *answer except:

No answer at all. That was so frightening to you that it absolutely prevents you from engaging in the topic. Your fears overwhelm every other cortical process, don’t they?

What, then, made the LA riots frightening to you that other rioting by people of other races do not? I don’t think it was the rocks some threw that set off your petrophobia, was it?

Gawdamighty, son …

I think it has more to do with the state looking like a flaccid penis.

There is that.

Lotta compensatin’ goin’ on, ‘zat whatcher sayin’?

Are you fucking kidding?

Do you not remember the long fruitless discussion about defensive gun use statistics where you failed to acknowledge that there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of defensive gun uses every year?

What the fuck is it about rioting, arson and looting that you don’t understand? Are you seriously trying to say that we should be OK with rioters burning down our livelihoods because they are black?

You’re stupid as moose shit, aren’t you. The statement was made to argue against the “defense against tyranny argument” Tyranny occurred despite looser gun laws than Germany had seen in many years.

Let’s try this another way. Imagine you have a device that measures distance - lets say it is a digital laser device.

You have a distance you want to measure. The first time you use the device, it reads 4.5 feet. The second time it says 8.1 inches. The third time, it reads 97 yards.

Would you:

  1. Conclude that the distance was 4.5 feet, because that one is in the middle, or 8.1 inches, because that is the most conservative?

Or

  1. Conclude that this measurement device is so inconsistent that you cannot rely on any of the estimates, and you’ll have to find some other method.

No, because you never supported that claim. And aren’t now. You haven’t even provided a definition of “defensive gun use”.

Again: That is the only thing you offer as a net benefit for gun ownership. Nice of you to let slip that the only rioters you fear are the black ones, though.

Godwin notwithstanding, you have been shown multiple times that you have the facts wrong on that, too. Please note that you are offering Hitler as your only support for your claims about an “armed citizenry” being necessary to protect against the US government becoming tyrannical. I just gave you credit above for being saner than Lumpy, but I hereby retract that.

Now don’t post drunk. Especially with one hand, while the other strokes your barrel.

I wasn’t part of that discussion, but I would love to see a cite for the hundreds of thousands to millions of defensive gun uses every year.

I am pretty agnostic on gun control, mostly because the Supreme Court has settled the issue pretty decisively. But I have to say that this claim does not pass the smell test by a long shot.
