Sorry for the minor hijack, but when I read this, my first thought was “Why is anyone protesting the Bureau of Land Management?”

You can’t initiate an assault then legally claim self defense when you get shot at.
What did the protesters do that constituted an assault?
Sadly, yet another tragedy is unfolding in Colorado Springs, but this sub-incident strikes me as qualifying for this thread.

Those Waffle Houses are full of thugs and liberals trying to take away the personal liberty to go into restaurants while carrying a gun and doing whatever else you feel like doing! I got an email saying that waitress was armed with a pen, too, and that she called him a stupid cracker asshole. Right wing echo chambers spawn killers, I sure hope this doesn’t impact any responsible gun owners’ rights to carry guns wherever they feel like it, like mosques and BLM protests.
I’m getting quick fucking sick and tired of terrorists attacking innocent people. It’s time something was done about these people. Perhaps we can deport them back to where they came from.
Better yet, let’s send ‘our’ terrorists over there to fight the ‘real’ ones. Cheaper than taking them to court - and an old American tradition - I went through basic training with two guys who were there 'cuz a judge told them it was the Army or jail.

Although it’s imperfect (e.g. more gun deaths per capita in New Mexico than in Utah), it will come as no surprise that firearm deaths by state are highest in the states that vote stupid.
